We are disgusted by the Parole Board of Canada's decision to grant day parole to Pingoatuk Kolola, convicted of murdering Cst. Douglas Scott in 2007. This is a slap in the face to his family, colleagues, and every officer who risks their life to protect our communities. npf-fpn.com/news-item/statem…

The NPF community is heartbroken once again to learn of the tragic, on-duty killing of Maple Ridge RCMP Constable Rick O’Brien, and of the wounding of Maple Ridge RCMP Members earlier today in Coquitlam, while on duty. Cst. O’Brien, 51 was a decorated police officer who, prior to joining the RCMP seven years ago, worked as an education assistant, a mental health worker, and a youth worker. He was a very giving and loving husband, father, brother, and son. Family was important to Cst. O’Brien, who is survived by his wife and their children. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew him and mourned by Canadians across the country. We send our deepest condolences to Cst. O’Brien’s family, to the Maple Ridge and Coquitlam RCMP, and to all RCMP Members for their loss. We also wish a full and speedy recovery to our two injured Members. The past year has proven to be very devastating to the community of police officers and their families and friends across the country. No one should fear their next shift could be their last, and no colleague should have to bear the unfathomable loss of a fallen peer. Thank you, Cst. O’Brien — we will never forget your ultimate sacrifice. #RCMPNeverForget

The NPF is devastated to learn of the on-duty death of Cst. Harvinder (Harvey) Singh Dhami, a Member of Alberta’s Strathcona RCMP Detachment, who was killed in an overnight vehicle collision while responding to assist other Members. Cst. Dhami graduated from Depot in 2019 and this was his first posting. He was hard-working, a key part of the Strathcona team, and proud to wear the uniform. Our hearts are with his wife and family, friends, and all his RCMP colleagues. This is a difficult time for our Members and for the Canadian policing family, who now bear the pain of another fallen officer. Thank you, Cst. Dhami for your service and professionalism. You will never be forgotten.

We are shocked and saddened that last night @TorontoPolice PSD Bingo was killed in the line of duty, while helping to apprehend an armed and dangerous suspect. These tragic losses are happening far too often – no police officer should fear that their next shift could be their last – or the last for their police dog partner. We are heartbroken to learn that early this morning, Sgt. Eric Mueller, an officer with the Ontario Provincial Police, was senselessly murdered while responding to a disturbance call. Sgt. Mueller started his OPP career 21 years ago as a special constable, and was hired as a constable in 2006. He has been described as someone that everybody looked up to, and the glue that held his shift together. Our thoughts and hearts go to the family, friends, and colleagues of Sgt. Mueller, as well as to the @OPP_News and the @OPPAssociation. We also wish a full recovery to his two fellow officers, who were injured while protecting their community. Police officers navigate dangerous and unpredictable situations every day, hoping to return home to their loved ones. Today, one of our heroes won’t make it home. This is a tragic reminder that police deaths are happening far too often, bringing the number of police officers murdered to eight in the last nine months – when one is too many. Across the country, NPF Members, our Board and staff and all Canadians are mourning this tragic loss.

We are heartbroken to learn that late last night, a Sûreté du Québec officer was tragically murdered while attempting to make an arrest. Our thoughts and hearts go to the family, friends, and colleagues of Sgt. Maureen Breau, as well as to the @sureteduquebec and the Association des policières et policiers provinciaux du Québec. Sgt. Maureen Breau had over 20 years of policing experience and leaves behind her spouse and children. We also wish a speedy recovery to the second police officer who sustained injuries during this call, whose life has without a doubt changed forever. Police officers do not wake up and expect it to be their last day on the job. They put on their uniforms and hope to make it home to their loved ones at the end of their shift. We were recently reminded of the real dangers of policing, and are reminded yet again. This tragedy comes only eleven days after the murder of two Edmonton Police Service officers, and just a few months after several murders of police officers in Ontario and British Columbia. Any police death is one too many and this is happening far too often. RCMP Members from across Canada and the NPF team mourn with you during this difficult time.

Please join us on Friday, April 14 to wear red in honour and recognition of Cst. Harvinder (Harvey) Singh Dhami, who was tragically killed in a vehicle collision while responding to assist other RCMP Members on April 10. We invite you to share photos on social media using the hashtag #WearRedFriday to show your support, and to share this post with others in your network. As always, the National Police Federation Benevolent Foundation is the sole trusted organization to accept, steward, and forward donations to the families of RCMP Members who have made the ultimate sacrifice. If you, your family, or friends wish to donate to Cst. Dhami’s family, the NPFBF has set-up a GoFundMe that will be open until May 11, 2023: gofundme.com/f/cst-harvinder…
