Dear my non-Caribbean friends. Here in Barbados, the main local music genre is Soca (Soul of Calypso). Something I'd never come across until I moved here. It's also shared with some other islands, notably Trinidad and Tobago. Today Machel Montano (from T&T), one of the area's biggest Soca artists, just did a Tiny Desk concert.
