You ARE *our* Olympic Champ. You qualified. You set that record. They can't take that away. You are still, and will always be, THAT GIRL.
Hold your head high, Queen. We're proud of you. 💜
If there’s any “Ferguson Effect,” this is it. The systematic elimination of *local* leaders in Black protest movements.
It is not a coincidence. It is not because local neighborhoods are “hostile” to police.
It is intentional.
Kris Smith, a business owner and prominent protester, was shot and killed Friday in Louisville.
His death comes less than three weeks after Travis Nagdy, a fellow protest leader, was killed.

Thinking about some things:
I think the worst part about learning to live with/through/survive depression and be high-functioning is that you come off looking incredibly inconsistent.
I’m grading an essay that reads like it was written by that chat bot AI or whatever. It’s uncanny.
Y’all can’t really think you’re going to skate on this. I’ll be doing oral exams if this is how folks want to play.
Try me.
I stopped believing in coincidence when the Ferguson activists started turning up dead. Still don’t quite buy that story about the BLM parade shooter, either. So.
Folks who've been rocking with me #onhere know that my research started here, has grown here, continues here.
So it feels right to hop #onhere and announce: Ya girl has been granted tenure.
All glory and honor be to God!
Universities have an opportunity to lead by creating bridge and completion programs for returning students that account for the professional experience they’ve gained in their years off campus.
Program director of TSU’s Health Administration program reveals to TMZ that since Megan Thee Stallion graduated, there’s been an influx of one-time dropouts re-enrolling to finish their degrees.
You disappoint people. You forget things: where you’re supposed to be; what’s due when. You fail yourself. And somehow, you still choose to keep trying.
Rather than sharing in your relief and amazement that you made it through another day, and ACCOMPLISHED THINGS to boot, people think you’re scatterbrained, undisciplined, negligent.
It’s a great move for her, for Howard, for HBCUs in general. Let’s celebrate that today. But tomorrow, let’s talk about conditions for faculty who aren’t major players.
Did an interview on background about #BlackTwitter today, and I’m thinking about my last word: If you do not make the effort to engage with Black people on a day-to-day basis; if you ignore Black people in your offline world, leave Black Twitter alone. #proflife#ISaidWhatISaid
More than 400K people in the US are dead. And yet:
"The officials maintained that he had violated protocol and should have returned the remaining doses to the office or thrown them away."

Here's the thing, Mark. Judging by your picture, your location, and the fact that you felt the need to jump in and "explain," you know why this was offensive to Dr. McDowell.
Question is, why do you feel the need to attempt to center yourself and negate *her* experience?
A friend sent a very believable theory: That we’re hearing more of them because retailers are getting rid of them, as there won’t be any shows this year.
Something similar happened to my dad once. Sugar dropped suddenly, so he pulled into the nearest parking lot (which happened to be a liquor store) before slumping forward. People thought he was drunk and ignored him for nearly an hour.
Well, let me put this out here before it all goes to hell.
I’ve been working on the last chapter of my book on Black Twitter, but if anyone wants to contribute last words, I’ll take em. I offer a $50 incentive for completed interviews 15-30 minutes. DM me if interested.

It's not just about police violence; not just about white violence. It's about the silence around the precarity of Black women's lives.
#LaquittaWillis deserved better.
Family of beloved cashier Laquitta Willis, talks exclusively with @cbs46 at 11p. Willis was killed by a customer who refused to wear his mask inside a DeKalb County supermarket. “She was just trying to keep safe and follow the policy. Then this happened.”
Pre-tenure faculty folks. Contingent faculty comrades. Grad students.
Listen to me. Hear my voice.
Dedicate 1 hour every week to updating your CV & tenure file. If they're available, download the dossier guidelines now, just so you have an idea of what needs to be included.
I’ve often reminded students that:
1. Asking for a grade/points they didn’t earn constitutes academic fraud, and
2. Emails are public records.
Ends the requests every time. Idk if this info helps, but I thought I’d share. Forza!
OK. Hold my hand, Twitter. We just got a call that there are v@cc1n3s 💉 avail near us, and we’re going.
I haven’t talked about it #onhere, but up until literally 5 minutes ago, I was a holdout. I’m still terrified, but we’re here.
“Twitter would not be Twitter without Black Twitter,” says @meredithdclark about changes to the platform that could potentially dissuade Black voices from using it. “Black Twitter: The Twitterverse that Changed a Generation” airs at 8p ET cbsn.ws/3ZbqVLl#BlackTwitterDoc

Brief break in my Twitter fast to tell y’all my wedding was tonight. Somehow I didn’t take any selfies with my hubs, but please enjoy this one with my brother and my childhood bff. #WeBeenMarried#ThisTheWeddingThough

COVID killed 120 people in Lake County yesterday. This Florida state rep is using his visibility to mock them. g.co/kgs/nr8U4R
He’ll say he’s mocking “mainstream media sensationalism.”
Log off and get a job. Make yourself useful. You’re unfit for public service.
Each term, as part of a confidential survey, I ask my students if there's anything happening outside of class that might impact their performance in class.
Just by asking, you learn some *critically important* things about the people in the room. #proflife
I cried in class today. I am exhausted and saddened about the shooting at @UVA, where I first developed #TheBlackTwitterClass. I had about 8-10 football players in my very first class there. +
I legit didn’t know there was a different expectation until I first heard “too much hair on your chocha/shave it off” (Diddy et al., 2014).
I had to look up “chocha” to make sure I fully understood the reference. 🤣🤣🤣
Y’all I zoomed around the corner so fast. Said “excuse me, I know you didn’t ask me, but we live in perilous times. Buy the boots. Wear the boots.”
She asked what ‘perilous’ meant (English wasn’t her first language).
I explained. She nodded.

This is a misrepresentation. LeBron said he is able to put bball first because of Savannah’s labor, and that if something happened to her, he’d be done with it. +
Lebron just said on a podcast, as Lisa Leslie discussed how she had to put basketball on the back burner to be a mother, that nothing comes before basketball - not even fatherhood. Which is likely exactly how Tom also feels.
“When Mamie Till did it, it jump-started the CRM!”
Are y’all OK?
The Anti-Lynching Bill was introduced in 1918. It was passed & signed into law in The Year of Our Lord 20 and 22.
Andrew Gillum is now the first African American nominee for governor in Florida.
Gillum pulled off a historic upset against Gwen Graham. He'll now face Republican Ron DeSantis — backed by Donald Trump — in November's general election. More live results: politi.co/2wtv1T5
Breaking news: The Florida House passed legislation that would require people to pay financial obligations as part of their criminal sentence before they can vote again. Bill requires repayment, even if obligation has been converted to a civil lien. The vote was 71-45
Y’all, I did not earn $1.2m to study Black Twitter. I am PART (a small part) of a TEAM that earned a grant to develop tools for social media media archiving + use for social justice. I don’t want that to be confused.
Who tried to come from Holly Robinson Peete?
This site ain’t been sold yet. Black Twitter is still here and we will still drag your ass coming for folks who ain’t done nothing to nobody. You tried it.
I keep my funky opinions to myself, especially in the light of another’s good news (cause we need it). But folks are about to spin an entire narrative off a power play and will erase the experience of the faculty *at* HU rn, not to mention the folks *at* UNC, etc etc
It's my privilege and honor to join the faculty at @NU_CAMD as Associate* Professor of Communication, Media Innovation & Social Change beginning Fall 2021.
Willie, Foster, and I will be relocating to #Boston this summer.
Mamie Till’s decision was HERS to make. She birthed her son, raised him, kept him alive until bloodthirsty men took him from her.
And she did it during a time when media were not easily manipulated into gross caricatures of death, as they are now.

Y’all, please help:
If you would consider teaching from my forthcoming book, “We Tried to Tell Y’all: Black Twitter and the Rise of Digital Counternarratives” in one of your classes, please shoot me the name of the class, the course code, and the student level ASAP. Thanks!
