New: Microsoft was blindsided by OpenAI's ouster of CEO Sam Altman
Its biggest partner, one who has invested billions in the company, learned a minute before the rest of the world, a person familiar with the matter tells @axios.

Open letter:
I love my trans sisters and brothers and my non-binary siblings. I don’t believe their existence, identities, access to housing, employment or medical care should be a matter of debate.

I dedicate tonight to Fischer Wells, the only known transgender girl playing secondary school sports in the state of Kentucky. They passed a whole bill to keep one girl, Fischer Wells, off her middle school field hockey team. #imwithfischer
Of note, @Twitter isn't just mandating employees work from home. It is also
-paying hourly workers
-paying costs to set up home office
-paying for additional child care needed as traditional child care options close

It’s been a rough time for trans and nonbinary youth. I wanted to find a way to show them support and #letters4transkids was what I came up with. I hope you will join me by posting a message of encouragement to these amazing young people and tagging it #letters4transkids (1/7)
This is why trans adults are fighting for trans kids.
We made it & we know lots of people who didn’t. We’ve seen it can be better. We’ve seen how kids can thrive & now people want the next generation to go backward. That’s it. That’s the whole plan.
And we won’t stand for it.
So many trans people go through so much just to be who they are. I am so tired of rich celebrities using our pain as a punch line and/or (but usually and) to deal with their own insecurities.
Every day brings a fresh heartache. Every day my trans and non-binary siblings in some state lose some inalienable right. A fundamental right that was nonetheless put up for debate and vote. A right that they need to be safe, a right that helped them feel more fully themselves.
Twitter exec on stage talking about how it will use AMD’s EPYC 2 processors in the data center.
Also not for nothing, it’s two women in tech on stage talking about their tech, not being women in tech.
Clarification for @X - is writing someone’s name if they use a pseudonym or some other name against your terms of service as private information. If so, will that be enforced against all users?
Human biology is complicated. It can’t be easily defined in a binary nor explained in 280 characters.
Combine that with conflation of intersex and trans issues, mix in mis and disinformation and the result is the mess unfolding in Paris

As some of you know (and all of you now). I’m headed to Tokyo to cover the Olympics for Axios. It’s been surreal just planning for this but I am extremely excited for the adventure and look forward to sharing lots here and on axios.com
Came back from #ces2019 with the flu. The doctor said it should last into next week, ensuring it’s impact will be felt longer than 99.9% of products introduced in Las Vegas.
To the trans and non-binary youth having a hard time because they found out one of their favorite authors created an entire fictional universe but doesn’t have space for them, I feel you. But you are real and valid. I love you more than Harry, Hermione, Neville and Ron combined.
Yesterday Anna Luca Hamori posted vicious memes insulting Imane Khelif, comparing her to something less than human. (The posts were later deleted amid a complaint from the Algerian Olympic Committee)
After her fight, Hamori spoke to reporters and thanked her family and friends for the support she has received. I twice asked if she regretted her social media posts. She chose not to answer.

Ahead of chatting with @sama , Microsoft CTO Kevin Scott says if the system that trained GPT 3 was a shark and GPT-4 was an Orca, the next model, being trained now, is the size of a whale. "This whale sized supercomputer is hard at work right now," Scott said. #msbuild
Starting this quarter I will no longer be making a separate iPhone, iPad and iMac joke on Apple earnings day, but will instead offer generic hardware joke as well as humor services.
Didn't realize this moment was being filmed yesterday but I'm so happy that it was. My childhood self would never have dreamed of seeing a gay kiss on TV at the Olympics but for the first time ever a kid watching at home CAN! Love is love is love.

Man @TheDailyShow Trevor Noah defense of trans kids was truly beautiful.
They need us all -trans and not - to speak up for them and their rights to be who they are.
A whole group of legislators got together and passed a bill to kick one girl, Fischer Wells, off the field hockey team SHE started. #imwithfischer#letters4transkids
Just sending a hug to all my trans and non-binary siblings who have started pride month by seeing their identities demeaned, their humanity assaulted and their rights and safety under further attack.
At a time when nobody thought to create semiconductors in such a manner, @lynnconway did. And then she literally wrote the book that would inspire generations of chip designers.
At a time when few people transitioned, Lynn Conway did so, even though it she lost both family relationships and her job in the process .
And in our time, when some would pit the pursuit of transgender rights against the cause of women's equity in fields where they are underrepresented, Lynn Conway fought for both.
Throughout her life, Lynn Conway was known to question everything except the fierce love and sense of moral justice with which she lived her life.
Though she died this past weekend, her legacy lives on, with a place inside that smartphone you are carrying, in the brains of so many in the tech industry and in the hearts of even more people.
Thank you Lynn Conway. I wish I had gotten to meet you in person, but I am grateful for the words you shared with me and the love you spread in the world.
I wrote a story for Axios here.

Lots of folks are saying this isn't really an apology. As I note she said she was involved in YouTube's handling and agreed with its decisions. This was an "I'm sorry you were offended" apology, not a "We made the wrong decision and I'm sorry" apology.

There are a bunch of reasons I don’t love embargoes. 1) They often don’t serve original intent: allowing reporters time to report on a complex subject before writing. 2) one person often messes it up for everyone. I try really hard not to be that person. Today I was. Sorry to all
Reminder, since some seem confused today. Me being a trans woman doesn’t erase anyone else’s lived reality. My reality is different from other women, but all women’s realities differ from one another along so many ways, race, religion, ability class, and so many more.
I’ll start:
Hey there,
I know it can be hard some times — really hard. It’s tough enough to figure out who you are inside. And then you have figure out what to do with that knowledge and how to make your way in a world that isn’t always so kind. (3/7) #letters4transkids
Sending a huge hug to each of my trans & nonbinary siblings after another heartbreaking day that saw kids’ opportunities for a happy, healthy childhood diminished, the dignity of our community denied & our safety diminished.
I proudly stand with you and for you every day. 🏳️‍⚧️❤️
One of my favorite things is being able to be in the media, visibly and audibly trans, as an expert in my field and not just for being transgender, though I am proudly trans. Happy #TransDayOfVisibility2019 to all my trans and non-binary siblings!
I was today years old when I learned this trick for foisting the end bread on your kid. Flip the bread over. Put the PB and J on the end part and then cut the crusts off because you are a good mom who would never give your kid crust.
Transphobia is so ingrained in their coverage they are literally issuing a clarification that their story wasn’t transphobic because they didn’t have the opportunity.
The BBC has confirmed the following:
"We can clarify that Brain of Britain's list of women finalists included a trans woman, a detail which was not made available to the Woman's Hour team when they covered the story."
