Sharing our computer vision system design for TRON: Ares. We approached these shots from the perspective of the machine. The frame becomes a field of observation. Every pixel is potential information waiting to be interpreted. The process begins by squarepacking the live action plates, dividing the image into a computational lattice. Once the grid exists, the system begins to read. Targets emerge. Motion vectors form. Signals ripple through layers of analysis. Inside these overlays lives the source code of the system itself. Streams of logic, fragments of instruction, the internal language of the machine. At times the imagery dissolves directly into that code, as if the world itself is being rewritten from within. Visual information collapses into structure, then reconstructs again as data. Scanning pulses move across the frame. Timers react. Coordinates lock. Each layer is part of a larger ecosystem of perception, constantly processing, evaluating, and iterating. The goal was maximum detail and living systems. Interfaces that breathe, think, and evolve in real time.

RIP Flash ––– you were a renaissance. You had your moment in history and an entire movement used you to change the way we thought about the internet. We are still a close family, forever – and we made history together. 🙏🏼 Rest in Peace.

New Project on GMUNK –– Utilizing special military grade camera technologies to register the invisible – to see what is normally unseen; how underneath any image is an alternate reality teeming in its vivid existence. gmunk.com/Nike-Maharishi

NASA @NASA enlisted Mr. Munkowitz to work on the conceptual imagery for their Europa Clipper campaign, which in October 2024 embarked on a nearly six-year journey to Jupiter’s icy moon, Europa—a prime candidate for extraterrestrial life in our solar system. The discoveries there could impact all of humanity. The key visuals needed to highlight the three elements of the mission – the spacecraft, Jupiter and it’s moon Europa using a cinematic low-angle evoking the interstellar crop-dusting type sweeps Clipper will make. The project ended up exploring two distinct design directions; one leaning into graphic design fundamentals and the geometric nature of planetary bodies and space exploration. The second direction leaned into a more literal, photographic aesthetic, aiming to envision what being on site, on the surface of Europe could look and feel like. For this ambitious endeavor, Munky collaborated with his trusted creative powerhouse, the ever-handsome Toros Kose @Toronaydo. Together, they explored and refined an immense volume of concepts and executions. While only one hero visual was ultimately chosen, the journey of experimentation presented unique challenges and equal inspiration. Been thinking a lot of about Data Visualizations due to our current work on a very future-tech feature film, and wanted to share some past projects in that arena. This one in particular was compelling because it took all the live World Cup data and piped it into a generative series of digital art that told the story of the football match, all in real-time. ⚽️
