NAME THAT FAVORITE TRACK! ok.. From EACH CD!
28 Years Ago TODAY, Prince released his 19th studio album Emancipation. It was a 3 CD set that ultimately celebrated his freedom from Warner Brothers.
Each CD contained 12 tracks and totaled exactly 60 minutes in length each. Prince announced that Dallas Austin would co-produce his next album and, "It’s called Emancipation: 52 songs, 80 dollars. Save your money!". It was not 52 songs. But 36 is nothing to gawk at. And it also doesn’t appear that Dallas was involved either.
Michael Bland said that the idea of releasing a triple album came about when Prince saw how double-album sales were counted by SoundScan with Michael Jackson’s album HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I where the sale of one 2-CD set was being counted as two copies sold.
While Emancipation is mostly Prince, the album also featured contributions from two iterations of The New Power Generation including Michael B., Sonny T., Tommy Barbarella and Mr. Hayes and the 1996 version of the band with Kirk Johnson, Rhonda Smith, Kat Dyson, Mr. Hayes and Eric Leeds.
