My kids watched Pocahontas & asked why the white people were so afraid of the Indians
I told them how the Powhatan invited this guy & 25 others to a meeting to trade for food (the colonists were starving)
they murdered his entourage & flayed him alive with mussel shells
the big thing that absolutely nobody talks about ever at all is that many native american tribes were raiding people. that means they came into your house and chopped your head off, killed and raped your wife, and stole your children. they didn't do it out of necessity, they did it for sport. they were vastly reported to indulge in and love the violence they afflicted. even gangs of native women would specifically attack innocent mothers and beat them to death. when you say "apache," for example, this is what you're talking about. basically mass serial murderers. not just of whites, of everyone.
so when we talk about "taking their land," yes this may be true in some senses, but you're talking about "taking the land" of a people who skinned people alive and brutally and sadistically murdered entire families—for fun.
This is not to say that raiding peoples were evil exactly (vikings were raiders too), but its like...this was simply destined to happen. it could not continue.
