Finally shipping an API as my 8th startup at 18 🚀 Here are some of the thoughts I put into it: Problem Making PDFs absolutely sucks for devs. You either need to selfhost browsers, or use existing APIs which either look shit, are expensive or both. Solution Refile is a dead simple, fairly priced & extensible Markdown to PDF API. You can sign up and get an API key in 10 seconds with free plan via Google log in. It's easily self-hostable for enterprise customers & there's a simple API playground with a copy code button. You can literally implement it in 5 minutes with amazing DX. Docs have guides and premade code for tons of platforms. Stack (100% scale-to-zero) - @nextjs + @vercel (site, api, cronjobs, blob storage) - @neondatabase + @authjs + Google OAuth - @polar_sh for payments - Custom-made PDF generation stack I'm using the least dependencies possible (no external auth, Vercel for everything) and keeping the stack as simple as I can. Everything is scale-to-zero so the project will always make a profit or break even. TBD - Marketing (lol) - SDKs - Further integrations (no-code, improving DX) Happy for any feedback!

Cursor makes errors 50% of the time. Reduce that to 40% with good prompting & step by step. 50% of bugs caught by linter with TypeScript. Cursor Composer + o1 fixes at least 75% of all the remaining bugs. Result: You have to intervene ~5% of the time

- No more than 3 clicks to get an API key with AI studio, no cloud account needed (just give people a free quota or sth. and do a prepaid system afterward with the option to switch to google cloud) - Provide OpenAI & Anthropic compatible APIs that also work with their SDK so people can switch by changing one line of code - Market and make abundantly clear AI studio is the easiest way to access Gemini & avoid confusion (why don't highlight it in search? after all you own it - when somebody googles Gemini API just show them a button to get an API key and a link to simple, fast docs) - Consistent design for AI studio - Build specialized models to dominate all major categories (long context, RAG, function calling, speed/cost, long output, structures outputs) Gemini models are underrated. More people need to know your models are f*ckign sick. 1-4 are very low effort and make a huge diff fast.
