I am building a machine learning framework in C++. So far I put almost 2 years of my leisure time into it and hope to be able to show it off around end of this year. Uchen ([oochen]) is Ukrainian for "student". My goal is to help people build smarter software and have some fun.

NVIDIA spent decades on CUDA. They invested in tools, libraries and devrel. AMD/ATI did not care. I left NV 10 years ago and sold all my stock a long time ago but I still feel so vindicated that all that investment and hard work paid off.

I use Windows with WSL. I write mostly C++. I left macOS because I wanted GPUs for experimentation. I hate Linux desktop, it is buggy and hideous. VSCode has great support with WSL, I barely notice there's actually two OSes.

People don’t use tools that suck. Most Visual Studio users use interactive debugging because Microsoft does it well. GDB/LLDB, on the other hand, suck. They are slow and hard to learn. I worked on debuggers and really familiar with GDB, and yet I only use it as a last resort…

Visual C++ refuses to fill float array with (int)0. Clang and GCC see no issues.
I do believe that Windows should not exist and that Visual C++ is atrocious. Still, having my C++20 compiler on all 3 major compilers helps me catch so many dumb mistakes…

Guidelines I follow to ship safe C++ (thread): 1. C constructs are a code smell. Replace raw pointers with smart pointers or references (no nulls!), replace C array with std::array (now it is safe to return). std::invoke, C++ casts, etc. Avoid preprocessor (#define and such)

I was practicing leetcode - and was surprised when my solution for a trivial problem was in top 5% on memory efficiency. The trick - relying on std::string_view. Pretty sure others just used std::string that used more memory. Execution time was on par with others.
