Canada condemns Israel’s strikes in Qatar — an intolerable expansion of violence and an affront to Qatar’s sovereignty.   Regardless of their objectives, such attacks pose a grave risk of escalating conflict throughout the region, and directly imperil efforts to advance peace & security, secure the release of all hostages, and achieve a lasting ceasefire — efforts in which Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani plays a highly constructive role.

The elimination of Hezbollah leader, Hassan Nasrallah, means justice for countless families that have lost loved ones at the hands of this genocidal terrorist. The people of Israel, Lebanon and the Middle East have suffered for decades as a result of his violence and terror, backed by the criminal regime in Tehran. Hezbollah should immediately cease their attacks on the people of Israel, stop using innocent people in Lebanon as human shields and lay down their arms so this war can come to an end. Conservatives will always stand with our allies against terrorism around the world.

Hospitals and medical workers must always be safe to provide important services for patients and their families. Last night's protest route in front of the Mount Sinai hospital had a negative impact and that's troubling and wrong in a society that cherishes freedom of assembly and the right to protest, as well as the right to feel safe. Yet also troubling and wrong is the rush to label protesters as antisemitic and/or terrorist sympathizers. If police determine any action was motivated by hate, then it should be unequivocally condemned because there can be no justification for antisemitism. Not ever. Just as there should be no excuse for the indiscriminate killing of any and all innocent men, women, and children -- which is what demonstrators were actually protesting. Anyone who condemns one but not the other is demonstrating to all of us how Islamophobia and anti-Palestinian racism operate to devalue the lives of those deemed less than human and unworthy of protections, including those afforded by international humanitarian law. Let's not forget that Canadian Palestinians with family in Gaza have watched in horror as their loved ones, their friends and neighbours, have been bombed, starved, displaced, maimed and killed these past four months - with no end in sight to this madness. Thousands of Canadians from coast to coast to coast of every faith and background are also devastated by the violence and forceful displacement they are witnessing on their screens every day. Many have joined the hundreds of peaceful protests that have taken place across the country. And many report being silenced and/or having faced repercussions for standing up in solidarity with the Palestinian people. Meanwhile, in the past two weeks alone, there have been reports of hate-motivated graffiti found on an Islamic Centre in Cambridge, Islamophobic graffiti left outside the prayer room of a provincial government building, and a Muslim woman assaulted and robbed in Mississauga. Where are the condemnations of these acts? Enough with the double standards. Everyone, everywhere, deserves to live in safety, with dignity, and in freedom.

The news out of Amsterdam last night is horrifying. This is a dark moment for our world — and one we have seen before. My heart goes out to the victims, and the entire Jewish community today. Canada condemns this disgusting antisemitism.

My statement below on the attacks in Majdal Shams:

Due to public safety concerns, the Avenue Road Bridge will be closed. There will be no access to Avenue Road from Highway 401. Police are on scene to enforce this in order to keep demonstrators, counter-demonstrators, and passing traffic safe. Stay tuned for re-opening details.

It has been deeply distressing and disturbing to witness the violence that took place in Amsterdam around the Europa League match last night. All intimidation against any community is wrong, no matter where. The violence that ensued against any person is unacceptable, and those who assaulted people should face prison time. Islamophobia and anti-Semitism must always be fought. It is also alarming to see many Canadian leaders and commentators speak out about the issue without acknowledging attacks on Arabs in the streets of Amsterdam. There is significant evidence showing that the violence began early in the day with Maccabi Tel-Aviv fans assaulting Arabs, burning objects and flags in the streets, yelling genocidal chants, and walking through the streets of Amsterdam, dragging Arab taxi drivers out of their vehicles and beating them. This does not in any way justify soccer hooliganism or physical fights between fans. Violence is always unacceptable, and provocation to violence is not a justification. It is simply to say that if Canadian leaders choose to weigh in on this issue, they must condemn the well-documented attacks on Arabs in Amsterdam by Maccabi Tel-Aviv fans over the last 24 hours, as well as the violent chants being espoused by those fans. Our Canadian leaders need to be principled in their dialogue and in their actions -- condemning all forms of hate, whether it's Islamophobia, anti-Palestinian racism, or antisemitism.

New Democrats are horrified by and condemn the massacre by Israeli troops of over 100 Palestinians seeking life-saving aid. Canada must take action to save lives. Tomorrow, Parliament will debate actions proposed by the NDP. We urge the other parties to support our motion.
