Canada's just-confirmed decision to restore funding to UNRWA is deplorable, and sadly unsurprising.
For years, the Trudeau government has been warned about the UN agency’s deeply rooted culture of hate and incitement against Israel and Jews, in addition to its rampant corruption. While all this is pervasive and well documented, the warnings have been repeatedly ignored and excused away.
In recent months, a litany of evidence has revealed UNRWA employee complicity (or worse) in the Hamas atrocities in southern Israel on Oct. 7, including the abduction of women and children, rape and mass murder.
While it’s essential that Canada contributes to humanitarian aid into Gaza, experience has shown time and again that UNRWA can’t be trusted to ensure that these supplies are not diverted to the benefit of Hamas.

The reinstatement of the film was made possible by the many local, national and international voices – Jewish and non-Jewish – who spoke out and stood in solidarity with filmmaker Barry Avrich and with all those impacted by the atrocities and trauma of October 7. The truth about Hamas’s horrific massacre must be told, and its tellers should never face intimidation or censorship.

The university has now rewarded the hostile activities that the unauthorized anti-Israel encampment engaged in on campus by agreeing to a long list of demands made by the encampment organizers, which will only entrench antisemitic narratives and further marginalize Jewish members of the university community.

Such strong leadership is more needed than ever to ensure spaces remain inclusive and welcoming for all communities.
Ottawa is a kind and welcoming city where everyone should feel included. I'm disappointed that despite conversations with the Jewish community, the board of Capital Pride has chosen to stand behind its original statement that caused significant hurt and distress for many members of the Jewish community. This decision by the board, days before the start of Pride, has unfortunately created an atmosphere where many now do not feel welcome to participate. Pride has always been and should continue to be a celebration of diversity and inclusion where no one feels excluded for who they are. I encourage the board of Capital Pride to take steps to ensure no one feels excluded this year.
It's important to continue to support the 2LGBTQ+ community and defend the values of equity and inclusion that the Pride movement has always stood for. I will be attending Pride activities in the days ahead but unless there is a change in approach, I will not be participating in events organized by Capital Pride this year.

The chief also issued a warning to those who might bring signage and flags of terror groups listed under Canadian law onto our streets: “We remind everyone that charges can be laid at any time, whether it’s hours, days or even weeks after an incident, including those that take place at demonstrations.”
