In the past 24 hours I have been accused of releasing a pro-lynching song (a song that has been out since May) and was subject to the comparison that I (direct quote) was not too pleased with the nationwide BLM protests. These references are not only meritless, but dangerous. There is not a single lyric in the song that references race or points to it- and there isn’t a single video clip that isn’t real news footage -and while I can try and respect others to have their own interpretation of a song with music- this one goes too far.
As so many pointed out, I was present at Route 91-where so many lost their lives- and our community recently suffered another heartbreaking tragedy. NO ONE, including me, wants to continue to see senseless headlines or families ripped apart.
Try That In A Small Town, for me, refers to the feeling of a community that I had growing up, where we took care of our neighbors, regardless of differences of background or belief. Because they were our neighbors, and that was above any differences. My political views have never been something I’ve hidden from, and I know that a lot of us in this Country don’t agree on how we get back to a sense of normalcy where we go at least a day without a headline that keeps us up at night. But the desire for it to- that’s what this song is about.

Unfortunately I’m seeing a lot of posts attacking all blacks. There are a lot of black conservatives like us that are fighting to save our country. We are outraged at the murders, the hate, and division democrats are creating.
I just received a message saying, “All you Black people are the same.” This is exactly what the left wants. I’m a conservative who has never been in trouble with the law. I’ve voted for Trump three times. I’m also a pastor and a husband, and I’ve been a strong advocate for conservative values since 2020. What about Byron Donalds, Tim Scott, Ben Carson? We are not all the same.
This is why many Christian conservatives are wrong for not seeking balance in these situations. Black people are diverse, and the growing representation within the Republican Party proves it. More Black Americans are waking up and joining the movement. We can be angry and demand change without embracing racism and hate toward all black people.

Being in an interracial marriage, my wife gets treated with racism wayyyy more from blacks than I ever have from whites. My wife got treated so bad by my black bowling league I quit, I had blacks tell me in front of my wife they wouldn’t talk to me because I was with a white woman, black female store clerks rolling their eyes at my wife or and walk away from her when she asks them a question. I have witnessed this over and over.
Not once since I’ve been with my wife have I had a white person treat me bad because I’m married to a white woman, as a matter of fact whites want to be our friends and invite us to do things with them.
