The adopted son of two teachers one of who came out as gay, with the immigrant wife and a non-verbal child and decades of public server was just passed over for *checks notes* an older white banker who decided to return to Canada to be PM.
Mark Carney fires back at critics of his economic plan—doubling down amid concerns it could raise 🇨🇦 debt.
He contrasts his vision with the CPC’s sharp-cutting platform:
“Trevor Tombe is wrong.”
“I have more experience than he does.”
Carney’s message is clear: trust the resume, not the rhetoric.
News flash: most business owners don't have pension plans. What they have is a business that they were planning to sell when the time comes to retire. The capital gains hike is a direct attack on the retirements of those who spent their careers building the Canadian economy.
.@PierrePoilievre applies a MAGA republican campaign tactic, he targets voters of lower intelligence.
In #Canada, research indicates the more education a person has the less likely they are to support Poilievre.
#Poilievre followers, do the math - if you can. 🤷‍♂️
If you’re trusting the government that the capital gain tax change only effects 40,000 Canadians and that they’ll build 4 million homes in a few short years - you may need to brush up on your critical thinking skills.
Imagine for a moment that the Federal Government announced a plan to tax monies withdrawn from an RRSP at a rate 33% higher than current rates. How outraged would you be? Do you understand the outrage from business owners now with respect to capital gains?
If you'd vote for Trudeau, then go ahead, vote for Carney, he's a carbon copy. But if you were tired of the arrogance, condescension, ethical lapses, and general sliminess - make a different choice.
So we chose the guy who uses tax havens, excuses foreign interference, and lies as easily as he breathes over the man who has faithfully served his country for the last 20 years??
Canadians are fine with abusive tax policy as long as it impacts someone else - the problem is eventually the country will run out of “someone else” to tax. First they came for doctors and small businesses, next they came for homeowners with “expensive” houses….
Canadians: can’t find family doctors. Also Canadians: tax the rich! Make them pay! Jack their taxes! Gee, it’s a shame those doctors were also part of the despised group of “rich people”….and after being told to leave, they did just that.
They don’t get climate rebates, they don’t get child tax benefits, they don’t get any income tested tax benefit at all — and now despite paying 70% of the total tax bill, they’ll pay even more. There comes a point when it’s no longer a partnership, but just abuse.
A capital gains tax on primary residence better come with capital expense deductions for maintenance and improvements. Also: bad idea, colossally bad idea.
Our neighbour has a Liberal sign up on their boulevard - asked my daughter is we should put up a conservative one. Maybe the lack of signs around Victoria is a sign. #QuietlyConservative
I once voted for Jack Layton, I once (only once) voted for Trudeau - there is no way I would vote for Mark Carney this election. A complete non-starter for me.
To those who voted Liberal because they hate Trump - congratulations, you just voted for the man who Trump endorsed more than once during the election and who he would prefer to deal with. Big pats on the back there.
The Conservative Party of Canada is simply the better team with a better plan this election - they have put in the work to listen to Canadians and deliver policies that will bring home a better standard of living for Canadians.
If you want to become a parent, my government will help make it more affordable. We’ll introduce a new IVF funding program to help cover costs for a standard treatment cycle.
Your boss just took a massive pay cut courtesy of the federal government - how receptive do you think they’ll be when you ask for your next raise? Still have no empathy?
A premier who seriously flubbed on Holocaust Memorial Day just sacked a female, Jewish MP for commenting that what is now Israel was at one time a “crappy piece of land”. Meanwhile: Susan Kim remains a City of Victoria councillor despite conduct that is far more egregious.
If the average property value in Chip's neighborhood is $4,000,000 - Chip pays 20 times more property tax ($220k/year) each year than the average resident ($11.1k/year). It would seem that Chip pays his fair share.
Dave Eby isn’t the centre left, never was and never will be. Horgan knew there needed to be balance and discussion - Eby? He’ll ram through a bill that fundamentally alters rights without debate. Just ask condo owners. #EbyJeebies
A lot of the disdain for Poilievre melts away when you actually watch what he does. He is a genuine bridge builder and is likely to win over those who at least have an open mind about how they mark their ballots. Same was true of O’Toole. It’ll take time.
Can anyone name one thing that has actually gotten better under the B.C. NDP? Are education outcomes better? Is healthcare better? Fewer overdoses? Lower rents? Crime and public disorder?
Vote like you’re a vehicle crash victim. Vote like you’ve lost your property rights. Vote like you’ve been the victim of a crime. Vote like you own a small business that is just hanging on. Vote like a person languishing in a health care waitlist. Don’t vote NDP.
Losing NDP strongholds like Victoria-Beacon Hill to John Rustad’s BC Conservatives @timthielmann would send a very strong message that we’ve had enough of NDP failures.
#yyjtraffic | Temporary CCTV will be deployed and traffic disruptions expected for a downtown demonstration this Saturday beginning at approx. 1:00 p.m. and lasting approx. 3 hours.

Congrats Canada: you’re making the choice to choose America for those who operate businesses easier by the day! Guess what? Jobs go with the businesses and the businesses go with the entrepreneurs who are now going to go where the capital gains taxes are a lot lower. #DohCanada
While we were stopped at the light between Yates and Fort and on Fernwood, at the bus stop directly across from Central Middle School, a man was doing crack and another was doubled over on a mobility scooter. This is Victoria, BC. This is why the B.C. NDP need to be voted out.
Absurd. Offensive. He’s not even hiding it anymore—this is blatant misogyny.
If this is how he sees women, imagine what he thinks about their right to choose.
These are people who played by all the rules, people whose annual tax bills are more than the lifetime tax bills of others, people who give heavily to charities. They did nothing but contribute- for decades. These people are not villains - not by a long shot.
When Canadians pay high amounts of taxes but cannot get basic, quality, public services: safe streets, usable parks, family doctors, and access to necessary healthcare many will start looking to live elsewhere.
A conservative win would have meant a 4 year break from the NDP - not nearly enough to undo the damage done. A strong opposition sets the stage for the NDP to be exiled from government for a very long time and that is what is needed. It’s the long run that matters.
Can’t vote NDP as they allowed anti-semitism to flourish, can’t vote Liberal because they need to be held accountable for the last 10 years, won’t vote PPC (Mr. Bernier and the merry band of anti-vax conspiracy theorists are a non-starter), that leaves Green or CPC. I choose CPC.
Say No to the NDP. Say it loud, say it with a ballot. Say safe streets matter, access to healthcare matters, say rights for those injured in motor vehicle accidents matter, say womens sports matter, say fiscal responsibility matters.
BC Conservatives have a platform with ideas and hope for a better future for our province and those that make it home. BC NDP has mud, and they’re slinging it. #ENDP
He (Poilievre) said he will stand up for the millennial women "whose biological clock is running out faster than they can afford to buy a home and have kids."
Very weird phrasing, no wonder his numbers are so bad with women lol

What many are hearing: it’s okay to steal from others as long as they’re doing a lot better than you are. It’s not. A person’s socioeconomic status does not make stealing from them right. It just doesn’t. To the degree a change is retroactive: it’s theft.
Here’s the thing: the NDP have been in government for 7 years - the mess we have, it’s their’s and they refuse to own it. Elections have consequences: don’t reward incompetence. #VoteWithCONfidence#ENDP
Have you been under a rock the last 10 years? By nearly every measure possible, Canadians are worse off, and socially more divided than they have ever been.
Eby took Victoria’s mayor, reviled by many for good reasons, and gave her a plum position. That’s who Eby is: a man who doesn’t care what the public thinks, he’ll do what he wants.
If you can’t beat them: join them. That’s the reality for many United members today - it’s time to switch to B.C. Conservative. Ending the NDP means sending a message: if you can’t merge and work together, you’ll be left working alone. Sorry, Kevin.
Lastly, he’s never been ashamed of our country nor has he thought that Canada should limit its potential. He sees Canada as a country that can and will be strong - if given the right governance. I think he can do it.
The NDP don’t want to run on their record, they want to run on fear. What’s really scary: giving the NDP 4 more years after they’ve failed to make B.C. a better place or to even maintain what was the status quo.
If given the choice between having a billionaire as a neighbour or having a supportive housing facility as a neighbour - the vast majority of British Columbians would choose the billionaire.
The Greens are worried about the accumulation of wealth - wealth that funds retirements, wealth that pays for post-secondary education, wealth that supports the creation of small businesses . When did wealth become a dirty word???
The only thing this government is proving is that changing the lead role, changed nothing. Accountability was needed and it has been forgone. Carney: sadly, is proving his critics were right.
There’s a lot more extremism in Eby’s NDP and Trudeau’s Liberals than there is to be found lurking among Conservatives. Maybe, just maybe those candidates also need to be far more carefully scrutinized.
I’ve waited to see who the @voteBCUnited candidate would be for my riding. I’m done waiting - Tim has knocked on doors and is wanting to work for my community. He has my support this upcoming election.
I’m a legally blind lawyer who’s worked with First Nations for 15 years. Here’s why I left the progressive left to run for the Conservative Party of B.C.
Here’s an experiment: declare you’re voting conservative. Then watch as Trudeau True Believers lob ad hominem attacks your way. Trudeau’s track record speaks for itself: our country is not a better place for his leadership. We are moving backwards, not forwards.
Susan Kim: Wasn't sorry then, isn't sorry now. Should have been censured, wasn't. This person has no business being an elected City of Victoria Councilor. Resignation & censure is appropriate! #CensureKim
Victoria councillor Susan Kim gives antisemitic speech at pro-Hamas rally on anniversary of October 7 attack. Thanks to our undercover reporter for recording this!
Tim Thielmann was standing with our Jewish community yesterday, October 7th. @GraceALore was wondering why Tim wasn't debating her. Because Grace, there are priorities, and sometimes, you are not the priority. I applaud @timthielmann for choosing our Jewish community on Oct. 7.
Oh Victoria! Failing to censure Susan Kim, cancelling "the Runner" and now, paying people to protest for Palestine. We're getting a reputation, and its not good. torontosun.com/opinion/colum…
The list of things giving B.C. the Eby Jeebies is long:
- no fault car insurance
- removal of property rights
- high taxation
- climbing drug deaths
- failing healthcare
- climbing cost of living
