ALT VCU mourns the death of student Adam Oakes, who was identified by authorities at an off-campus residence early Saturday. This is a tragic loss for Adam's family and members of our community and we encourage any students in need of support to contact University Counseling Services at (804) 828-6200. The Richmond Police Department is leading an investigation and the VCU Police Department is assisting. The Delta Chi fraternity's national office issued a cease-and-desist order to the VCU chapter on Saturday; the university took similar action today and continues its investigation. ALT On May 3, VCU's Division of Student Affairs initiated disciplinary proceedings against the Delta Chi fraternity chapter at VCU. Based on the information provided, the Delta Chi fraternity chapter at VCU was found responsible for charges referred to the Student Organization Conduct Committee Chairs. Therefore, effective May 28, the Delta Chi fraternity permanently lost university recognition, meaning it is no longer authorized to operate as a student organization at VCU.
