We will return Fortnite to the US iOS App Store next week. Epic puts forth a peace proposal: If Apple extends the court's friction-free, Apple-tax-free framework worldwide, we'll return Fortnite to the App Store worldwide and drop current and future litigation on the topic.
NO FEES on web transactions. Game over for the Apple Tax. Apple’s 15-30% junk fees are now just as dead here in the United States of America as they are in Europe under the Digital Markets Act. Unlawful here, unlawful there. 4 years 4 months 17 days.

Today, Apple said Epic is seeking a special deal, but that's not true. We're fighting for open platforms and policy changes equally benefiting all developers. And it'll be a hell of a fight!
Here Apple speaks of a level playing field. To me, this means: All iOS developers are free to process payments directly, all users are free to install software from any source. In this endeavor, Epic won’t seek nor accept a special deal just for ourselves. washingtonpost.com/technolog…

There is a good programming principle stated here: Don’t write functions for code one can write inline as a simple expression using well-known operations. It’s much easier to read code that uses a small number of common primitives than to remember 1000’s of helper functions.
Today, Linus Torvalds told a Google engineer that his code (updating RISC-V support in the Linux kernel) is “garbage” which “makes the world actively a worse place to live”. Adding that the Google engineer’s code needs to “get bent”. As you might have guessed, Torvalds has rejected that code submission.

Indeed Unreal Engine is moving to Left-Up-Forward coordinates everywhere, starting with UEFN, and coming to UE5-6 in an incrementally-adoptable way through UI settings and C++ helper functions/macros to ease the transition. This will align Unreal with Y-Up, right handed standards of USD and glTF. Why? Because future 3d tools and ecosystems will be increasingly interoperable and standards-based. There are a lot of missing standards we’ll need to propose, and Team Unreal will be far more successful proposing new things if we adopt and add to existing standards and conventions. The USD-glTF-Maya-Houdini quadrant is the center of mass for complex code-art-pipeline tooling that is highly sensitive to coordinates. (Flipping coordinates when exporting from AutoCAD or Blender is easy enough; changing a movie vfx pipeline is not). Coordinates based on project settings sound like a have-it-your-way compromise but are a combinatorial mess when projects are a mix of code modules and content packages from many independent authors. The best time to make this change would have been 1995, but I believe the second best time is now with the launch of Scene Graph in UEFN.
They changed the orientation of axis in ortho view in #UE5.6. Is the LUF coming here too?

Thanks to everyone who is speaking up against Apple blocking Epic from competing with their App Store. On PC, we’ve served over 270,000,000 customers, so the victims of Apple’s competition bans include hundreds of millions of future customers on iOS who are deprived of better deals on games and better cross-platform gaming and social features, as well as hundreds of thousands of developers who are stuck under Apple’s tax regime. Competition is a fragile thing. Apple can crush it not only by banning it outright as it did pre-DMA, but also by selectively blocking specific competitors like us, and by sowing fear among all developers who’d like to partner with us to reach users, and by users who fear buying apps on a third-party store Apple can block at any time. Apple is doing everything they can to sow fear so that, even if they’re forced to end this blockade, every developer will know Apple can crush any of us on a whim, and therefore that competition is futile. It’s a sad slope for the world’s most respected company to be slipping down, but slipping it is, and it’s a long way down. bit.ly/48Kl0RC
