“My fantasy series takes place is a matriarchal society!” Is it an actual /matriarchy/ or is it just a patriarchy with women instead of men with no structural changes
What are some more goddesses you want to see? I’m doing a sketch page to cool down from midterms, so far I have Inanna-Ishtar (posted), Isis, and Aphrodite. I don’t want to flood it w Greek goddesses but if you have a niche one lmk👁️👁️
If they make Odysseus “washed up half dead but still gotta pray to Poseidon bc I’m a god-respecting mortal little guy” of Ithaca some weird edgy hater of the gods in this I stg😭
I honestly wish they casted someone older/more masc for Athene. Her being overly glamorized as well as constantly made super feminine feels very… meh.. to me. I thought Zen would be Calypso tbh!
ALT screenshot of a youtube video thumbnail. the video is titled "the problem with Greek myth retellings," by kate Alexandra. the thumbnail features various covers of modern myth retellings, sprinkled with teaser quotes. Persephone from lore olympus sits in the bottom right corner.
Someone posted this (no labels) on Pinterest and people were debating in the comments who is who😭and someone correctly deduced it was Ody purely bc of the thighs LOLLLL
I saw lots of ‘Ares to my Aphrodite’ comments and smiled BUT I also saw a few ‘Hephaestus to my Aglaia’ comments which I did NOT expect!! I’m so glad ppl know abt her now!! WAHHH!!!
It’s hard to summarize the differences in a tweet but I really recommend people look up ancient African, Egyptian, and near east societies—most of which were matriarchal far enough back. And the bonobos (mat) vs chimps (pat) for the animal peeps
In the simplest possible terms: matriarchal societies focus on children and community-importance more than expansion or self-importance. The family structure would also be matrilineal, and more focus would be put on religion and crafts instead of warfare and hierarchy
He literally got into that situation because he defied the gods, the ancient Greeks were not writing shit with “defy the gods” as a core message, they were INCREDIBLY pious😭
Ares and Aphrodite have the most compelling relationship in mythos and the culture watering it down to “pretty girl and meathead jock” is deeply misogynistic
I don’t personally have issues with people “headcanoning” the gods to have sexualities (despite the ancient Greeks not having those labels) bc yk times change or whatever… but when people imply Athena or any of the virgin goddesses are “canon” asexuals my eye twitches ++
Jorge’s “they wanted Helen of Sparta, I wanted somebody smarter” line and his “I don’t want to make calypso SA bc that’s too heavy for the musical! But I bring it up with Penelope in order for Ody to aura farm!” Both rub me the wrong way
Abt to write an essay abt Odysseus and the women who assaulted him bc a very important part of understanding why Circe was assault is understanding how the Ancient Greeks view female sexuality, it WAS magic against him, it was an obstacle that’s WHY she’s there…
