AOC: They come in the right way, they fill out their paperwork, they have gotten a job, they’re participating in our economy, they’re paying taxes, and now we’re going to endanger and possibly put people on a track to deportation who are gainfully participating in their communities and in our economy at a time when, frankly, even just economically and socially, we need these folks now more than ever. AOC on Inflation: It’s not easy to just find a cheaper apartment when every apartment or every home in your area is the same unaffordable price. And so what is so challenging about this is that this isn’t just like going to the grocery store and buying the generic cereal and switching over. How do you actually accommodate when you can’t afford medicine, when you can’t afford your housing? This is a crisis… MacFarlane: Do you think the administration is taking it seriously? AOC: No, they’re making it worse because what the Trump administration is doing is entering sweetheart deal after sweetheart deal, whether it’s with Monsanto and our food supply with glyphosate, whether it’s housing, whether it’s, you know, these crypto agents that are engaged in money laundering—I think at least. I think they are not only ignoring it, they see it and they are actively making it worse. And what they think is that people are too dumb to understand what it is that they’re doing. They’re banking on the fact that people will support them no matter what and that nothing will change that support. And I think that what is really important is for every voter, regardless of your background or your party or whatever it is, to understand what’s your line and what is acceptable to you.

Today marks four years since the Supreme Court ended the constitutional right to abortion. Now, reproductive freedoms are under sustained attack across the country, regularly endangering the lives of those in need of care. We must protect reproductive health care at all costs.

NYCHA Tenant Associations play a vital role in advocating for residents on issues like housing conditions, safety, and tenant rights. It was great to connect with our NYCHA TA Presidents to discuss priorities for our community in the year ahead.

Thunderstorms and the chance of flash flooding move into NYC today. Heavy rain, strong winds, hail, and lightning are all possible. High winds can knock down trees and power lines and send debris flying. Heavy rain can flood streets and basement apartments fast, often with very little warning. NYCEM activated the city's Flash Flood Emergency Plan on Thursday. We have been preparing since then and through the day, coordinating with agency partners and tracking conditions around the clock so the city is ready and New Yorkers get the word in time to act. Now we need you to do your part. Know your risk. If you live in a basement or ground-floor apartment, a low-lying neighborhood, or an area that has flooded before, you are at higher risk. Take a few minutes now to get ready. Before the storm: Sign up for alerts at nyc.gov/notifynyc or text NYC to 692-692. If you live in a basement apartment, select the basement apartment alert option so you get warnings that apply to where you live. Bring in or tie down anything that can blow away, like trash cans, lawn furniture, plant pots, and umbrellas. Clear debris from basement windows, stairwell drains, and gutters so water can flow. Make sure your basement exits are clear and easy to open. Keep a Go Bag near your door with medications, a flashlight, a phone charger, and important documents in waterproof bags. When it hits: If you hear thunder, head inside and move away from windows to an interior room on a lower floor. Do not touch electrical equipment or plumbing during a thunderstorm. If a Flash Flood Warning or Emergency is issued, act immediately and move to higher ground. Do not wait to see the water. Never walk or drive through floodwater. Just 6 inches can knock you off your feet, and 1 foot can sweep away a car. Once you leave a flooded area, do not go back until officials confirm it is clear. Flooding can develop overnight, so keep your phone nearby with alerts on and the volume up. Sign up at nyc.gov/notifynyc and get more storm and flooding tips at nyc.gov/beready.

Juneteenth reminds us that freedom is hard fought, but guaranteed when we organize and refuse to back down. The work is not done. Today, we celebrate Black American resistance and resilience, and recommit to the transformation required to deliver real equity and justice for all.

In 2022, for-profit health insurers paid $10B in compensation to agents and brokers for enrolling individuals into Medicare Advantage plans. My legislation would bar financial perks for agents and brokers and ensure they work with patients to choose the best plan for them.

A status bill that includes colonialism as an option is not decolonization. @RepAOC & I oppose the Resident Commissioner's legislation & will keep fighting for real self-determination for Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico's colonial status is a stain on our history. It must end.
