Full of gratitude and humility today because I am celebrating 20 years of continuous sobriety. While I’ve never hid my addiction to alcohol or my recovery, I haven’t really spoken about it in a public forum like this either.

🆕 Exciting news! I’m thrilled to announce that the @usmayors (USCM) has selected the @CityofProv to host their 2027 Annual Meeting. The USCM is a non-partisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or more, totaling over 1,400 cities in the country. Each year the Conference holds its Annual Meeting in a different member city, convening a diverse, bipartisan group of mayors to discuss critical issues, engage federal leaders and adopt policy resolutions that guide the advocacy work of the organization. We're excited to have the opportunity to welcome mayors and leaders from across the country to Providence to experience all that the Creative Capital has to offer!

President Biden has dedicated his life to bettering our country, and I join my colleagues across the country and around the world in thanking him for his extraordinary service. From revitalizing our economy, to passing unprecedented climate legislation, to making historic infrastructure investments, to helping cities like Providence build back better after the pandemic, the Biden-Harris administration has an exemplary record of accomplishment over the past four years. Democracy is on the ballot this November, and it's time to come together as a party and prevent a return to the disastrous Trump years. I look forward to hearing from the President later this week.

I am deeply concerned and disappointed in the City Council’s proposed divestment ordinance that reeks of antisemitism. The ordinance is divisive and polarizing and will only make members of our Jewish community feel further isolated and targeted. I have worked hard to ensure our local Jewish community feels safe and welcomed and share the RI Jewish Alliance’s strong concerns about the language and misguided purpose of this ordinance. Currently, the City of Providence has no direct investments in State of Israel Bonds. Within the pension portfolio of approximately $430 million, the City holds a passive index fund valued at $7.5 million that holds a wide range of international bonds from a multitude of countries and as of this year only 0.4% of that investment is in State of Israel Bonds, totaling only $29,940. An ordinance requiring the divestment of a bond of this size is unproductive, ineffective and possibly violates state law. I am strongly opposed to this ordinance and if passed, intend to veto it.
NEW: City Hall is divided over a new proposal to divest Providence from Israeli bonds + ban future investment City Councilors say it’s about moral values Mayor Smiley says it “reeks of antisemitism” and has already pledged to veto if it reaches his desk bostonglobe.com/2024/06/06/m…
