Gen. Petreaus says what I and others have been stating for over a year. Staying halfway, delivering weapons in dribs and drabs, uttering "as long as it takes", evoking "negotiations on Ukraine's terms" are guilt before history. OUR war aim must be clear: to defeat Russia. Period.
In our military doctrine, to break through the kind of defenses we see in southern #Ukraine, you need an air advantage, and much more. We did not provide that to the Ukrainians," former CIA chief Gen. David Petraeus said in an interview with the BBC The military criticized the slowness of the West and said that it was delays in arms deliveries that caused the failure of the AFU counter-offensive. "There was a delay in making decisions on Abrams, a delay with Leopard. We delayed cluster shells that could have been very useful, ATACMS. And finally, Western-style airplanes." He also pointed to Western mistakes that he believes indirectly led to the war in Ukraine. "Putin decided that he could escape responsibility for the invasion of Ukraine because we did not take sufficient measures after the occupation of Crimea."

The reality is that the Ukrainians will win. I've written this many times over the past years: they'll win on their own, through their intelligence and courage. They'll regain their territory and drive the russian enemy out of their land. They'll have saved Europe despite itself.
We are now conducting one of our counter-offensive operations at the Donetsk direction – in the Pokrovsk and Dobropillia areas. Russian losses just since the start of this counter-offensive – in the Pokrovsk area alone, in these past weeks – are already more than 2,500, of which over 1,300 have been killed. Ukraine is rightfully defending its positions and its land. This is a heroic defense. I am proud of our warriors. I am proud of our people. In this war Ukraine finds protection against every Russian treachery. We are thwarting every Russian plan to destroy our state. Our defense is always active. We have proven that Ukrainians can achieve the necessary results even when many around the world expect results from Russia. It is important that our partners act with dignity – just as our people deserve to be supported. Russia must be forced to peace. Ukraine can do this – if our army has sufficient strength and sufficient long-range capabilities. And the world can do this together with us – through strong sanctions and strong pressure, as strong as our people are strong. I thank everyone who is fighting for Ukraine.

It's high time the Allies got serious, for the sake of Ukraine & the South, and enforced law of the sea. Ships from @NATO countries, incl. Turkey, France, UK, US, must escort vessels leaving Ukrainian ports. If attacked, these countries could trigger art. 5. Let's stop dithering.
Today's 🇷🇺 terrorists' attack on Odesa proves that their target is not only 🇺🇦, and not only the lives of our people. About a million tons of food is stored in the ports that were attacked today. This is the volume that should have been delivered to consumer countries in Africa and Asia long ago. The port terminal that suffered the most from the 🇷🇺 terror last night had 60,000 tons of agricultural products stored in it, which were intended to be shipped to China. That is, everyone is affected by this Russian terror. Everyone in the world should be interested in bringing 🇷🇺 to justice for its terror.

Chancellor Scholz told me that he planned to call Putin. His call, in my opinion, opens Pandora's Box. There may now be other conversations and phone calls. Just a lot of words. And this is exactly what Putin has long sought. It is critical for him to weaken his isolation, as well as Russia's isolation, and to hold mere talks that will lead nowhere. He has been doing this for decades. This has allowed Russia to avoid making any changes to its policies, effectively doing nothing, which has ultimately led to this war. 💥 Ukraine reports successful ATACMS strikes on Russian air defenses in occupied Crimea. An S-400 system, two S-300 systems, and 4 radars were hit with at least 10 ATACMS missiles across the peninsula. None of the ATACMS were intercepted by Russia.

Every time I see these images, either directly when I'm in Ukraine, or from further away, not only does my throat knot up, but I'm seized with an unspeakable anger. How many deaths could we, the Allies, have prevented if we had given more weapons and, better still, intervened?
Lviv. The Field of Mars. We will never forget our heroes who fought for freedom and defended Ukraine! We remember the price of our freedom and independence. Eternal glory to all who stood up for our state!

When will we understand that these Ukrainians killed by the Russians are our brothers and sisters? That they are Europeans and our close friends—and first & foremost human beings. That the guilt for letting them be murdered will weigh on our leaders' consciences forever—and ours.
🇺🇦 In Kyiv, the Wall of Remembrance of the Fallen for Ukraine is full. It is full of so many lives lost. Thousands of lives. The world lost them as much as Ukraine did, and is poorer for it.

I just mentioned the 100,000 bodies of Syrians found in mass graves. I can't fail to mention the 75,000 Ukrainians murdered by the russians in Mariupol alone + tens of thousands elsewhere. There can be no peace with criminal regimes, only defeat for good. pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/artic…

For the umpteenth time, I suggest the democratic leaders refrain from talking about peace, peace talks, negotiations, truce, ceasefire, and bla bla bla. Please speak of victory and defeat. There can't be true peace as long as russia is not defeated. Let's not fool ourselves.

It's high time the Allies took action to drive the Russian enemy out of Ukraine. Not tomorrow, but now. In fact, I've been asking for this since February 24, 2022. It would have saved over a hundred thousand lives and increased our security. A thread. 1/13 🧵

This is indeed a disgraceful move. It has a terrible cost in terms of Ukrainian lives and is a major disastrous strategic sin. The US could — and should — provide at least 200 or 300 ATCMS without depleting its stock. Russia must be fully defeated: let's stop dithering.
It’s now been almost 40 days since ATACMS were first used by Ukraine (October 16). Where are the follow up attacks? It’s pretty clear that the Biden Administration is giving only very small numbers and making Ukraine wait. This is disastrous. Gives Russia plenty of time to adjust

One of the many reasons why defeatism is irrational. Ukraine has just developed a new version of its Neptune missile, the “Long Neptune” (reach 1000 km — 600 miles). Successfully tested, it will be followed by others. The Ukrainians will free themselves. slate.fr/monde/ukraine-teste…

Let's be clear on this new slaughter. As always, the war crime is Russian, but the responsibility and furthermore guilt are ours. By not having allowed Kyiv to strike in the depth of Russian territory, provided enough weapons, and taken action, we've betrayed our commitments.
‼️Another massacre by Russians in broad daylight now in Kharkiv. Russian KAB bombs launched into a high rise building on a Friday afternoon while people return home from work. There are many victims including a little girl that was on the playground.

In Germany, they had (notably) Schröder. In Italy, they had (notably) Berlusconi and Salvini. In the US, they had (notably) Trump. In France, we had (notably) Sarkozy. #PutinVersteher

Massive Russian disinformation campaign targeting Germany on X through fake accounts. It also exists in France and elsewhere in Europe and the US. It's high time we took the threat seriously, but above all acted without restraint. Let's go all-out! #OurWar rfi.fr/fr/europe/20240126-al…

remained — and in our conscience it's up to us to keep it alive —: the camp, hence the death machine. The French poet René Char wrote of the Resistance: “Our heritage is not preceded by any testament”. This absent testament is ours to write. 8/8

Feb. 27, 2015 Boris #Nemtsov was murdered in front of the Kremlin towers. He had denounced the occupation of Crimea begun on Feb. 27, 2014 & invasion of Donbass. Heir to Anna Politkovskaya, he had investigated Putin's crimes in #Chechnya. He died for telling the truth #InMemoriam

I couldn't agree more with @general_ben "The failure lies with the West not Ukraine. The West has failed strategically by not committing to Ukraine's success & not delivering crucial capabilities in a timely manner." Ukraine will win if we get serious. 1/2 piped.video/watch?v=NM5NPk6E…

We will never forgive. We simply do not have the right to forgive. There are crimes that, to tell the truth, to forgive would in itself be a crime.

Mom always told me — I quoted this phrase in my latest book #NotreGuerre #OurWar — that she and her companions had one certainty: they were fighting absolute evil, with which there can be no compromise. It wasn't a question of hope, which was intimate, but of duty. 5/8

In Kyiv, early morning today. My sixth trip to #Ukraine since February 24, 2022. More than ever, I am confident that good will prevail over absolute evil. Ukraine is on its way to the full victory. Not wishful thinking but rational and actual assessment. But Europe must step in.
