Today we sent a letter to @GavinNewsom w/Ā Ā bipartisan support urging new guidance that will permit outdoor youth sporting activities w/ increased safety protocols in place. We are encouraged that Gov. is hopeful that there is a compromise!
Almost daily, my office and I receive phone calls and comments where Iām mistaken for someone else. I know thereās a lot of McCarty/McCarthy/McCartney confusion out there, so I just want to set the record straight.
Big #PoliceReform win! #AB1185#SheriffOversight passed the Senate today w/ a 27-11 vote. This bill will bring accountability & transparency to local law enforcement. Itās exceedingly clear that police canāt police themselves. T/y @HollyJMitchell for presenting the bill.
There is so much potential for downtown Sacramento! Imagine this area filled with residents going about their daily lives!
Recycling the three state buildings & turning them into housing is just the beginning of repopulating downtown! #AB2592#AdaptiveReuse#CALeg
We shouldn't have to be here, but we are. Proud to stand w/ @MomsDemand on National Gun Violence Prevention Day. Californians demand action to end our gun violence epidemic! If D.C won't act, we will, to keep families safe from this unnecessary violence. CA guns laws work!
Big news for housing in Downtown Sac! Three state buildings have been identified for adaptive reuse! What does that mean? I explain ā¬ļø
Iām excited for what this can do to help repopulate the area and Iām looking forward to seeing downtown Sac become a vibrant hub! š§µ
Californians know we need more housing and the #CALeg knows we must deliver.
Proud to co-author @Scott_Wienerās #SB50 to spur housing development in job-rich & transit-rich areas throughout CA.
This is one of the key steps we can take this session to tackle the #HousingCrisis.
1/ Today weāre starting the final push to pass #SB50 - legalizing apartments & affordable housing near jobs & transit - in the Senate by end of January.
Weāre announcing new amendments & endorsements from community orgs, elected officials & labor unions. link.medium.com/jwIGFfOy32

Today I spoke about how proposed budget cuts to childcare, schools & colleges would encumber our economic recovery.Ā Ā Budgets are reflective of our values & this year in particular if we donāt prioritize our education system, we hurt our ability to reopen & our future success.
Proud to co-author #AB2183, but more proud to march w/ @UFWupdates & farmworkers who literally feed us but still have to fight for basic rights & economic justice. Walking 13 miles in the Central Valley heat was tough, but not as tough as the back breaking work they do everyday.
#SB276 is on its way to the Governor.
I supported this compromise measure re: medical exemptions from vaccines because it is based on sound science and public health. Thank you @DrPanMD for your leadership on this issue.

Ā
Thank you, Sac Republic & @WiltonRancheria for making this possible!
āCould free transit for kids help California beat climate change?ā
Absolutely.
And we saw it work in Sacramento to double student ridership for @RideSacRT.
I'm working to make this happen in #AD7 and CA with @LorenaSGonzalez's #AB1350 for #transitfree for all CA youth.
A bill from Assemblywoman @LorenaSGonzalez would require all California transit agencies to offer free passes to anyone 18 or under in order to get state funding. bit.ly/2up6tOb#AB1350
Today CAās righted a wrong & voted to #FreeTheVote, restoring voting rights to individuals on parole. This is such a good step for democracy & public safety! Proud to have authored #Prop17. T/y @initiatejustice for your work on this measure.
E. Dotson Wilson has served in the CA State Assembly with absolute grace for more than 40 years. Thank you so much for all your hard work and dedication to the people of California.

A statement in response to ICE raids in Sacramento, including today at the Florin Road Home Depot.
ALT These ICE raids are a violation of civil rights and an affront to democracy.
There's a difference between deporting criminals and targeting people at Home Depot looking for work to feed their families. These raids are immoral and inhumane. They are intended to instill fear and chaos and cannot be tolerated in our City.
Sacramento has been a Sanctuary City for over 40 years and I will continue to protect ALL its residents.
A lot to be optimistic about during the #StateofDowntown and great to hear from @drdrew & @Mayor_Steinberg on tackling chronic homelessness and mandating results for those experiencing substance abuse.
Iāll be introducing legislation soon to implement these solutions across CA.
Introducing my 1st bill of 2020 w/ @AsmChristySmith to address inequity in our education system by eliminating costs of AP exams for low-income students.
As we start to move away from SAT/ACT testing, these tests prepare students for college & save them money on college credits.
#ACA6 passed on the Senate Floor! To get to this day was not easy, and thereās still work to be done. But I am thrilled that Californians will have an opportunity to weigh in this November, and use their voice to give voice to others. #FreetheVote#DemocracyNeedsEveryone

Itās time to #FreeTheVote for the nearly 50K Californians who have served their time in prison but are on parole. Itās morally right to end the disenfranchisement of returning citizens. But it also will also enhance public safety by reducing recidivism. Letās get behind #ACA6

Great news! AB 22 has passed out of committee w/ a 7-0 bipartisan vote. #AB22#UniversalTK will give every child in California access to a year of high-quality, full day preschool at no cost to families by expanding Universal Transitional Kindergarten!
Today I had the honor of voting to confirm my colleague and close friend @AsmShirleyWeber as the next CA Secretary of State. I will miss your passion & commitment here at the Assembly, but know you will serve CA well.
Hope so! We can and should find a way to permit outdoor youth sports. Good to hear that @GavinNewsom is optimistic about a compromise. Hopefully we can get our kids back to playing the sports they love, safely & quickly. ocregister.com/2021/02/03/neā¦
