Preliminary estimates show the unemployment rate fell in May to its lowest level in nine months, while the Labor Force Participation Rate for workers aged 25-54 has increased by 9.1% over the year.

Retirement continues to be a primary driver for the decline in the Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR) which decreased slightly to 65.6%, while the LFPR for workers 25-54 is 86.7%, its highest level in 10 years.
This data is publicly available online (mass.gov/EconomicResearch) and the May unemployment and job estimates are scheduled to be released on Monday, June 22, 2026.
