Many terrorists have entered the U.S. posing as “clean” operatives — the quickest way to scrub their pasts was to obtain new passports from countries such as Turkey, Syria, Afghanistan, Venezuela, and others. As a result, they now appear in our government databases as, for example, Syrian nationals when in reality they are Libyan or Yemeni.
A passport is a document, not definitive proof of identity. It shows what someone wants you to believe, not necessarily who they truly are. Don’t be fooled: ask probing, specific questions that go beyond the basics, cross-check details, and look for subtle inconsistencies in their story, accent, or behavior.
If something doesn’t add up, trust your gut!
