One time I tweeted about a camp signing. The player's mom emailed me within 20 minutes about "How excited they were to see someone reporting on her son" and "How even a temporary contract was fulfilling a dream". The replies often come with people excited because they liked the player in college. Or they knew them from HS.
When guys are in the NBA, it's fun to recognize it, even when it's momentary. All transactions matter to someone!

Brief moment of personal reflection:
Five years ago today, I had my own personal trade deadline when I gave my two-week notice to Disney that I'd be leaving the company. I traded my 20-year stable career to live the dream of covering the NBA full time.
There have been some bumps along the way (getting laid off a couple of times, COVID, family stuff), but we came out of all of it better and stronger.
