Literally BAFFLED as to how people found love before dating sites and social media. Was settling the norm? Or did everyone just happen to be romantically compatible with the person sitting nearest to them in class?

I asked my rabbi how he and his wife met: He spotted her by chance while visiting her college, asked around to get her name, then years later saw her name listed in the apartment building he had just moved into in a different state! Ran into her on the train & introduced himself.

I understand the mechanics of it. What seems unlikely is finding someone with the right combination of traits, values, etc., who happens to feel the same way about you. Online dating gives you access to way more people and the ability to filter those who meet your criteria.

I'm not sure we mean the same thing by "settling." In my mind, it means accepting a partner who doesn't fully meet your needs. Not settling doesn't mean you've exhausted an infinite supply or that you've found someone who satisfies every want; it means your needs are met.

The question of when human life begins is philosophical. Does an embryo have the same rights as an infant? What about unused embryos in IVF therapy? Your own philosophy here shouldn't restrict a woman's freedom to choose what happens to her body.
