Spent some time last night studying up on the specifics of the NBA's new CBA and this is a GAME CHANGER for the league😳
Key Takeaways:
1. As we know the CBA introduces 2 salary aprons ( levels above the luxury tax line, 1st apron = $7 Million above luxury, 2nd apron = $17.5 Million above luxury
2. Teams over either apron can’t sign buyout guys if their initial contract pre-buyout is over the mid level exception number.
3. Teams over the 2nd apron can’t take more money in from a single player by combining other contracts (aggregate). Also can’t use cash in trades, and can’t take in more money than they send out in trades.
4. Teams that finish over the 2nd apron during the 2024-2025 season can’t trade their draft pick 7 years out.
5. This one is MAJOR. Once a team finishes a season over the 2nd apron, if they remain over the 2nd apron for the next 2 out of 4 seasons, their draft pick is AUTOMATICALLY moved to the bottom of the 1st round regardless of seeding.
Ex: If the Warriors in the 2016-2017 season were over the 2nd Apron when they signed KD, they would have their 2019-2020 2nd Pick (Wiseman) moved to the bottom of the 1st round, the season where they finished 15th in the Western Conference.
Gonna make a video on the rest but this initial reading is INSANE🤯
