I'm often asked how to start when it comes to creating icons and I think this quote from @sdw really nails it. When I was beginning to learn to incorporate 3D into icons, I started by trying to make an exact recreation of Apple's Grapher icon:
🔐Excited to share the new icon I created for @1Password! I'm incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to work on the iconic lock apps.apple.com/us/app/1passw…
✨ @linear has a new icon! This was a challenging icon to get right but it was a blast to work with their team on it and I’m really stoked with how it turned out ✨
I captured my process making an icon here. I’ve always loved the magnifying loupe metaphor and the execution on this one was a fun challenge! As you can see, it’s all in the details.
Maybe I’ll try some more in the future if you find this interesting 📽️
I’ve seen a handful of apps using progressive blurs to transition content off-screen or behind elements and they often end up looking messy and making the exiting content a focal point.
One way you can avoid this and still make a nice transition is to reduce the max blur radius, and combine it with a gradient fade-out.
A new overlay sheet pattern I've been designing for Linear.
- Smooth entrance + snappy exit
- Lightweight visuals
- Gesture driven: drag down to dismiss, swipe back to pop (or dismiss!)
What do you think?
Does anyone else consistently struggle to get back to the alphanumeric keyboard after using emoji search?
Selecting an emoji doesn’t return you to the full emoji keyboard and the button to manually do it is moved from the left to the right.

the driving directions UI of Apple Maps is so well done. High contrast, not distracting, and highlights what is important to see out of the corner of your eye.

Say hello to Holo, the shiny new alternate app icon landing in GitHub for iOS! It was a lot of fun playing with making an iridescent / holographic material for this icon. Hope you like it ✨
Had a blast working with @jsngr and @marcofyi on an icon for an upcoming @diagram app, Xdesign 🪄

if you set your dock to hide, run this Terminal command to get rid of the slowest animation on macOS:
Defaults write com.apple.dock autohide-delay -float 0 && defaults write com.apple.dock autohide-time-modifier -float 0.4 && killall Dock
trust me
I do a lot of customer interviews with designers. It surprises me the number of folks who don’t use the `Automatically hide and show the Dock` settings?
That Dock takes up so much screen space especially on laptops.
What is your setup?

A tip for anyone recording an iPhone screen—plug your phone in and record it through QuickTime to get a clean 9:41 status bar with no screen recording indicator.

really stoked to be shipping two new GitHub iOS icons today. 🍃 Leaf and 🌊 Pebble.
the creative process behind these icons was a JOURNEY—I’ve been experimenting with the leaf concept on and off for a year and a half and am finally happy with shipping it in this form.
