Has my father,
#JamshidSharmahd, my hero, my guiding light, truly just arrived in Berlin?
I do not know.
How many more times will journalists, activists, and friends ask me for clarification, while I stare at a riddle that only deepens with each passing hour?
Neither Germany nor the US can give me a clear answer. A casket, supposedly containing my father’s remains, has arrived. It has been taken into custody for an autopsy, ordered by the prosecutors in Cottbus.
What awaits us now?
Is this really my father?
What exactly happened to him?
I promised you, Jimmy joon, that I would bring you home. And if what’s in that casket is truly you, then I can only say: Baba, I kept my promise. But I kept it at the cost of your life.
I couldn’t save you from their torture, their lies, their campaign of malice against you—against truth itself. I couldn’t stop their savage, bloodthirsty desire to silence a man like you, a hero who dared to stand up against them. You held on, held on with all your strength, to live in freedom, to see your people rise. And they stole that from us.
But I promised you this fight will continue. And it will, until we hold those responsible for your murder accountable. The Islamic Regime that kidnapped and killed you, and the German and US officals that left you defenseless in their hands to die.
You taught me how to fight. You taught me that the truth is a weapon. I will fight alongside an army of freedom fighters, not only for justice for you, but so the world can see what they stole from us—our hero, our protector of truth, the voice of Iran’s children, the one who made the
#Khomeinist regime tremble.
They were afraid of your words.
They were afraid of your spirit.
What they failed to understand is that your breath will become mine, your words our path, and your spirit, your immortal fire, will live on in the hearts of the courageous people of
#Iran.
For the last 4 months, I have fought harder than ever to bring you out of the hands of the tyrants who have occupied our motherland for decades. But now, I cannot hold your cold, lifeless hand. I cannot kiss you goodbye as they take you into police custody. I shudder at the thought of what the upcoming autopsy will reveal about the unimaginable suffering you endured during your 1,651 days as a
#hostage in Iran.
How shameful it is that the German prosecutors have denied our request to investigate your murder as part of
#CrimesAgainstHumanity. Kidnapping, torture, and execution—these are crimes, and your suffering is the suffering of thousands of Iranians every single day.
At the very least, Cottbus’ prosecutors office, which has initiated the autopsy, has a DUTY to INVESTIGATE your MURDER, for that is the truth we are all waiting to hear.
Your journey is far from over. It has only just begun. Will Germany and the US that refused to
#SaveSharmahd now at the very least start the first investigations into your murder and vow to hold the terrorist accountable?
German
@Bundeskanzler, foreign minister @ABaerbock, any of the politicians campaigning right now to lead Germany, as a fellow German I ask you will you take a moment and acknowledge what is happening?
President
@realDonaldTrump , Secretary
@marcorubio , National Security Advisor
@MikeWaltz47 , you know of my dad’s case. As a fellow American, I ask you will you help us find justice for my dad and for so many other hostages. Demand that Germany help you
@POTUS, end hostage diplomacy—extortion—by the Islamic regime once and for all.
The regime in Iran may have taken his eyes; they may have killed my father; but his voice will never be silenced and his vision for a free Iran and for future relations between the U.S. and an Iranian leadership that does not threaten the American people, as the Islamist regime, but instead is a partner for freedom, peace and security, will live on.
I, together with millions at my side, will fight for
#Justice4Jimmy until those who took your life pay for their crimes.
