Washington, DC
At a bar this weekend, I spoke with a random person in their young 30s. She mentioned that she and her sister-in-law have political disagreements. I asked her which subject in particular. She said: Israel-Palestine. So, I asked which side she stands on. She said she was opposed to Israel genociding Palestinians. Trying not to give away my position, I asked: What makes you say that? She said it was Israel killing 200,000 Palestinian children. I told her that was interesting because Hamas's death toll, which includes fighters, sits at around 70,000. At that point, she made it clear that she wasn't interested in changing her opinion. We have a propaganda and misinformation problem. It seems that many people have developed strong opinions based on lies. But perhaps correct information could help dispel the lies. Though, I suspect the truth doesn't matter as much as the narrative.

First they came with colonialism...but it made no sense because Jews obviously come from Judea. Then they came with apartheid...but it made no sense because racial segregation doesn't exist in Israel and Jews and Arabs have equal rights. Then they came with genocide...to describe Israel's defense against genocidal terrorists who murdered over 1,200 Israelis in unimaginably brutal ways. Following Hamas's slaughter of Jews, the terrorist group's supporters are now slaughtering the foundations of international order and the definitions of crimes. This is full-on lexicide.

A perfect storm of how the human rights camp is supporting terrorism against Israel. 🔻Accept Hamas casualty numbers. 🔻Don’t account for Hamas terrorists killed in the operation. 🔻Blame Israel for releasing its hostages, not Hamas for taking them. 🔻Ignore that almost all of the deaths occurred as Hamas tried to prevent the rescue. 🔻Don’t question the morality of holding hostages in a densely populated area that would endanger civilians. 🔻Disregard that Hamas had civilians hold Israelis hostage. This is why the human rights crowd has zero credibility on the Israel portfolio.

Thanks. I forgot to add “racism” to my original post. In any case, Hamas didn’t ask if people were practicing Jews before slaughtering them. Antisemites want Jews dead whether or not they are observant. So Israel, as a safe haven for Jews, offers citizenship to all Jews, regardless of their level of affiliation. It’s not racist to protect Jews, but it is telling that you’d use that term to characterize Israel’s tools to protect Jews.

Collective memory is real even if it isn't true. Palestinians believe they are innocent victims of an ongoing attempt to erase their existence. The nakba narrative takes zero accountability, failing to acknowledge that their failed attempt to quash the Jewish state and their ongoing violence against Israelis has backfired tremendously. So, they learn lessons from an imagined history, further setting back their cause. When their advocates claim that the current Israel-Hamas war is another nakba, I tend to agree. An attempt at eradicating Israeli Jews backfired spectacularly and rather than experiencing introspection, the Palestinians have doubled down on their victim narrative, denying their own agency.
