How MLB can “fix” baseball:
1. End local streaming blackouts
2. Free entry for kids on weekends
3. Mic’d up players
4. Financial support for grassroots minor league baseball
5. All concession items served in plastic helmets
6. Leave the actual game alone
A @Phillies fan two rows behind us caught a foul ball at last night’s game, and immediately started looking for a kid to give it to. That kid was my nephew, who has been walking around with the ball and a huge smile all day today.
To quote John @hodgman, who was talking about my sundae helmets when he famously said this, "The difference between a hoarder and a collector is a display case." Six years later, that dream is a reality!
I’m a Phillies fan, and as soon as one of these Braves-affiliated penguins is available on a dad hat, I’m getting one. And that is why you don’t name your minor league team for its parent club.
The Rome Braves are now the Rome Emperors! With an incredible suite of new penguin-themed logos and uniforms 🐧⚾
Our story, including a chat with the designer, is right here: news.sportslogos.net/2023/11…
I can barely contain myself right now. The great logo designer Dan Simon of Studio Simon, who is responsible for so many amazing logos in minor league baseball (and other sports!) created a logo for my podcast. I'm so grateful to Dan for his kindness and generosity and talent!
What are three non-stadium sites every baseball fan should visit? I’ll start: Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory, Hall of Fame
This guy is a firefighter in Albuquerque—he tells me the firefighters in town had these custom Albuquerque Dukes firefighter hats made up, which I find incredibly awesome.
Bucket List Item Alert! The Minnesota @Twins play the afternoon of Saturday, June 11. The @StPaulSaints play at 7:00 that evening. I have not been to either stadium and I have never been to two ballparks in one day...

The statue of Jackie Robinson that was destroyed by vandals in Wichita earlier this year has been recast by Art Castings of Colorado and it looks amazing. It was a moving experience to see it in person before it gets shipped to Kansas Thursday.

I'm going to start a minor league baseball team in the town of Oxford, Mississippi, and call it the Commas. Our big rival will be the Winston-Salem Dash.
I’ve finally committed to a longtime dream: I’m going to do about a podcast on baseball logos and nicknames, interviewing designers, front office personnel, fans, and players. It’s going to launch after the new year, but here is a quick preview: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…
Is there a worse logo in professional sports than the Brewers logo. I wish I was in the room when they proposed that:
“We have a great idea. It’s a glove and we are going to put a baseball in the glove.”
“That’s brilliant!”
When I take people down the basement to show them the sundae helmet collection, they ask one of three things:
• How many do you have?
• How are they organized?
• Are you going to murder me?
The answers: about 450, by classification, and probably not!
It's the #BaseballSolstice, friends! We're exactly halfway from the last out of the World Series to the first pitch of Spring Training games. WE'RE DOING THIS!

So thrilled to visit the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum on the first stop of #baseballpalooza 2021, and extra thrilled that the great @nlbmprez Bob Kendrick and @KionaSinks were kind enough to spend a few moments with us! What an amazing museum and opportunity!
I attended two games at Coors Field this weekend. I didn’t notice most of the rule changes, but I noticed the pitch clock a lot. Both ended 7-6, and they were 2:44 and 2:47 in duration. The games felt rushed and were over too fast, like listening to a podcast on 1.25x speed.

In 1985, the last time the Hanshin Tigers won the Japan Series title, raucous fans threw a statue of Colonel Sanders into the river. The ensuing title drought was blamed on the Curse of the Colonel, and the statue was retrieved in 2009. The curse was broken today after 38 years.
In my opinion, every minor league team should:
1. Have a unique nickname (not their parent club's)
2. Have a bat dog
3. Serve ice cream in a helmet with their own logo
If I planned a trip to see a minor league baseball game at a new ballpark, and it fell on a day when that team had rebranded as an ad for oat milk, I would be really mad.
BREAKING: Introducing the 121st team of Minor League Baseball, the Malmö Oat Milkers.

Holy smokes! My friends Jeremy and Alex are in Japan right now and they got me this amazing Yakult Swallows ice cream helmet! It’s the first Japanese addition to the collection.
MLB’s takeover of Minor League Baseball is a disaster. MiLB teams were forced to take a deal where they only get royalties on merchandise sold at games (third-party royalties go to MLB) and teams are losing in-game sales during 2.5-hour games because of “pace of play” rules.
In recent years, I have been making it a point to find reasons to say yes to things instead of finding reasons to say no. To that end, I have tickets to a Hanshin Tigers game in Japan later this season.
It's time for the 2022 Helmet Sundae Playoff Bracket! Helmets come courtesy of the Helmet Sundae Hall of Fame in my basement in Fort Collins, Colorado. MLB Postseason logos come courtesy, as always, of @sportslogosnet.
