Officer Jeffrey Friedlieb died by suicide yesterday night on the 4700 block of N Lamon. On 18 July 2011 Officer Friedlieb and his partner Officer Delvalle were shot in the line of duty near Pulaski and Wilcox after attempting to apprehend a suspected drug dealer. Friedlieb was born and raised on the Northwest side of Chicago.
He attended St. Tarcissus School, graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in 2000, and briefly attended the University of Iowa. In 2003, Friedlieb enlisted into the United States Marine Corps and served his time as a M1A1 Tank Crewman. Shortly after enlisting, he was deployed to Fallujah, Iraq where he took part in the Battle of Fallujah in November of 2004. In July 2007, he was honorably discharged as a sergeant from the Marine Corps, and then began his career with the Chicago Police Department.
May he rest in peace and we express our deepest condolences to his family.

This was a Chicago Police officer who was on duty disability.
He received the Carter Harrison medal which is granted to officers who have performed distinguished acts of bravery in the protection of life or property after being shot in the head in 2011.
The officer was shot in the head but survived in 2011 after witnessing a drug transaction in a west side alley and confronting the suspected drug dealer.
The offender was convicted of attempted murder and the officer testified at court that the bullet would remain lodged in his head for life, and caused constant headaches, trouble with balance and partial hearing loss in his left ear. He said after the incident he has also suffered from nightmares and PTSD.
