This is awesome! Just to put this into perspective, we released Brave Search no more than 1 month ago. It's time for big tech, and their old ways, to perish. The future is Brave.
When it comes to your iOS web browser, be sure to read the fine print! One of these things is not like the others. Not only does Brave collect no linked data, it also has the highest score at 4.8 stars with over 300K ratings! #ios#privacy#security
When I decided years ago to leave Microsoft and join a small group of hackers building @brave, some co-workers told me it was foolish. "Brave won't do well, let alone survive more than a few months," they said. Today we are celebrating 25.4+ million users! brave.com/25m-mau/
Lots of folks are waking up to Chrome having turned off their @ublockorigin extension. That's lame, Google. @brave continues to offer uBlock Origin to its users from within settings. Brave is the way 🙂
Today's Sponsored Images in @brave are absolutely incredible. I love the aesthetic, and the way I'm taken back to the early 90s, feeling the excitement of opening a pack of cards to see what I'd find. I love that Brave rewards me with $BAT just for viewing these too. What a deal!
Brave is amazing. I can drop a tip on Wikipedia for their excellent site, another tip on a developer via GitHub for a helpful comment/PR, and another on a Twitch streamer for their entertainment. And I can do it all without signing up anywhere! No credentials, cards, or accounts.
I think it's about time I prepare the next limited-edition Brave/BAT coin giveaway. Who agrees? 🙂 Only 100 of these exist.
In the past I chose winners randomly, based on those who retweeted a Tweet. Should I do that again, or are there more clever ideas?
Quick, select the bicycles, stairs, crosswalks, and buses! Who really dislikes doing this all the time? We're working on a Brave build which we hope will reduce their frequency, and would love a few of you to help us test. Raise your hand if interested. Warning: Preview Builds 🙂
We launched our prototype on Bitcoin. Network fees and congestion nearly buried our project. Our users were buying $5 in Bitcoin, and paying as much as 90% in fees. And having to wait a terribly-long time for their coins after that. BTC/LN wasn't ready.
I see spyware.neocities.org/articl… mentioned from time to time. The author claims Brave is Spyware, and should be avoided. I thought it would be helpful to walk through these claims for a moment 🙂 Feel free to share this thread when you see that source cited.
Incredible, it appears as though Google is allowing malicious sites to take-over Brave search terms to target the vulnerable. Consider this site, which uses a homoglyph in the URL to look official. The download is flagged as malicious by several security vendors. Please report!
Know somebody using Firefox, who isn't quite ready to make the jump to Brave? We published a Brave Search Add-On for those folks. Now you can give them the gift of Brave Search—a taste of something better 😉 addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir…
Windows users, have you set Brave as your default only to find that Windows still opens some things in Edge? With our latest update, Brave now handles the microsoft-edge protocol, enabling Windows to respect your default browser choice. Great coverage at ghacks.net/2021/09/29/brave-….
You can learn quite a bit about a browser from observing the requests it makes in its first moments with a new user profile. Often, a cursory examination will tell you a great deal about how the browser thinks about, and handles, user privacy and security. brave.com/popular-browsers-f…
Still so hard to believe, I'm actually seeking out ads, giving up no data in the process, and receiving 70% of the ad-spend for my attention. Just got another payout last night; time to send these tokens off to a few deserving content creators 🙂

I've been away for the last week, relocating back to the United States. I'm officially back in the saddle tomorrow, and looking forward to catching up with all of you 🤠
Wife says now that we're back in the States, I should give away more Brave coins. What do you all think?
Q: Why doesn't Brave appear in any browser market-share lists?
A: These lists identify browsers based on their "user-agent string". Brave reports itself to be Chrome (preventing our users from being targeted). As such, Brave artificially inflates Chrome's numbers.
More than 2.4MM people are using Brave every single day. I'm telling you, this movement won't be stopped. It's time to take back the Internet, and re-claim our data. Forward!
Warning! Dissenter for Windows and Linux hasn't been updated since March, 2020. For macOS, it hasn't been touched since November, 2019. The GitHub repo is stagnant since mid 2020. Chromium receives more than a hundred security patches yearly. Dissenter remains unpatched & unsafe.
Today our CEO forwarded a customer email expressing a bit of confusion about Brave Rewards. It didn't take but a few minutes to respond with an invitation to chat over the phone. I spoke with our 62-yo user in WA for 40 minutes. She LOVED our quality of support 😊
#ThatsBrave
Celebrating 4 years at Brave today. It is amazing to look back at where we started, how we've grown, and where we're headed.
The community around this project has been truly incredible as well. I am so pleased to interact with you all on a daily basis.
Here's to Brave, and us!
As we wrap up 2023, our eyes are on the year ahead and all that @brave and its incredible community will achieve together.
To celebrate, I'm giving away 3 of the 100 limited-edition Brave coins. Bronze 64 and 65, as well as Gold 24 (to ring in 2024) will go to three lucky followers.
For your chance to win, like and share this post, follow @bravesampson and @brave, and reply with what you hope to see from Brave in the year to come!
Winners will be announced at the end of January.
What if you could search the entire Web, right from @X? Prototype of XSearch, powered by @Brave. Apply your preferred goggles (see search.brave.com/goggles/), ask @Grok to summarize results and entries, see which accounts you follow have shared a result in the past, and more. Would you use it? 🙂
I walked into a restaurant yesterday wearing a Brave shirt. Two of the hosts took notice, and asked "Do you use Brave? We love it." Today I ran into another guy today who stopped me and excitedly asked "I was told you worked with Brave; is that true?" Brave is changing the World.
Brave is quickly becoming the final beacon of hope; possibly our last real chance to save the Web. I am proud to serve with such an incredible team to build a private, secure, equitable, and sustainable Web. Thank you all for your continued support! Now is the time to be Brave!
I'm so proud of the Brave team. We have fought tooth and claw for years as the under-dog. The odds have been stacked against us, and yet it didn't kill our spirit. We press on, eyes locked on a better future for all users of the Web. We haven't lost focus; we won't be stopped.

What happens when you run a new browser on your iPad or iPhone for the first time? What does it do, and with whom does it communicate prior to user navigation? I explored that question here: brave.com/ios-browser-first-…
Facebook admitted this week that they track your location even when you’ve turned off location tracking — and then sell that data to advertisers.
Your data is your property. Tech companies should absolutely not be allowed to use it without your permission.
Taking some time today to pack up sticker requests. Thank you all for your constant support.
If you'd like to receive stickers, email sampson@brave.com with the subject "Stickers".
Be sure to include your preferred U.S. mailing address 🦁
Most people using Brave Ads have no idea what a blockchain is. They don't know anything about ERC-20, or confirmations, or cryptography, or proof of work, etc. All they know is when they view a Brave Ad, they get rewards. Brave effaces the hard stuff, which drives the adoption.
Do you have a lot of tabs? Memory Saver might be a game-changer.
This relatively new feature of Brave will free-up memory associated with stale tabs. It is off by default, but can be enabled in Settings (in the System section, where you may also specify a list of nondiscardable sites).
Various factors are considered before a tab is discarded, such as when it was last accessed, if it is producing audio, etc.
Play around with the feature, and let us know what you think!
Many ask how to block promoted Tweets in Brave. Right-click the page and select the 🦁 icon. Then select Block. The selector depends on whether you're use the new Twitter, or old.
Old Twitter:
.tweet.promoted-tweet
New Twitter:
[aria-label$="Timeline"]>div>div>div>div>div>div
You can hide Promoted Tweets on Twitter in Brave (Desktop) by right-clicking the page, selecting "Block element" in the Brave menu, and pasting in the following selector:
div[class]>div[class]>article
Ping if there are ever any problems, and we'll adapt the selector as needed.
I recently presented a 5-minute history of surveillance-based digital advertising, and shared how @Brave is combatting the practice. If you are curious where and how it all began, check out this overview. piped.video/LsrrT502luI
Every time I think about what we're building, I can't help but to be impressed.
Brave Ads (User Model):
☑ 100% Opt-In
☑ User Configurable
☑ Pays 70% to the user
☑ On-Device Matching
☑ ML & improves w/ time
☑ No Data leaks
☑ Protects Brand Safety
☑ Combats Fraud
Brave is growing at an incredible rate. Millions of users who are tired of being hearded like cattle before third parties, and auctioned to the top bidder. Waves of advertisers who are tired of fighting rampant fraud, brand safety issues, and more. The future is Brave! #BeBrave
I have Brave configured to show a maximum of 4 ads per hour. We're starting the 5th day of February, and I have already earned nearly $4 (on track to exceed $20). Rewards automatically flow out to verified creators. Supporting the sites I love has never been easier!
I sent out 5 more Brave coins today. About half of the original 100 coins have been distributed across Canada, the Cayman Islands, Colombia, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Hungary, South Africa, Spain, Turkey, and USA (CA, DC, FL, IL, IN, MI, MN, MT, OH, OR, TN, TX, and UT).
I just added another purchase of BAT to brave.com/transparency. We just set a new record too, with July now being the biggest month with more than 1.1 million BAT bought.
These tokens make their way to participants of Brave Rewards; see brave.com/brave-rewards to learn more 🦁
19.6M MAU 🤯
For perspective, Brave entered 2018 with just over 1M MAUs. In a few years Brave has established itself as one of the leading forces in the privacy-first movement.
Each day sees waves of Internet users making the switch to a more private, secure, and equitable Web.
I'd like to express my gratitude to each and every one of you who have been with us from the start. @brave and the @AttentionToken would not have made it this far and gained this momentum without you. Thank you, sincerely. You are all absolutely incredible.
When the history has been written and the books are closed, and Brave goes on to be known as one of the most transformative projects of its time, I will always remember the late nights and long hours we spent working to achieve that success. Every bit of it will have been earned.
Check your version of Brave, if it's 0.25.x, it's time to manually update. This version is extremely old, and had a bug that prevented some from being able to automatically update. If you're still on this build, visit brave.com/download, and join the rest of us on 0.61.x 😉
It pays it be @brave.
It pays in time.
It pays in safety.
It pays in speed.
It pays in freedom.
Oh, and it pays in @AttentionToken too :) Collect $5 in BAT for every user you bring to the @brave community: brave.com/refer
Lots of positive news about Brave Ads on Android. Here is what you should know:
• Off by default
• Surface as OS notifications
• 70% of revenue to the user
• No data leaks
• Matched on-device
• Matching improves with time
(Machine Learning)
• You control frequency
Not quite an oldie yet, but definitely a banger. Introduced in January of this year, Rerank is a novel feature of Brave Search which empowers every user to fine-tune their search results with the click of a button. Discard sites you don't trust; Raise those that you do.
Read more at brave.com/blog/search-rerank….
Now that's a thing of beauty! ☺ I love seeing these coins arrive at their new homes. If you would like a chance to win your own limited edition @brave and @AttentionToken coin, see my pinned Tweet. Picking 3 winners tomorrow.
One of my least-favorite features of Windows is how it forces Edge usage (via ms-edge protocol) for search results, etc.—it doesn't respect your default browser choice. Brave changes this, being the first major browser—other than Edge itself—to handle the microsoft-edge protocol.
Just received a Brave Ad from @khanacademy. I love that I can easily set a monthly contribution right from @brave. No credit cards, no accounts, no problem.
My kids have used Khan Academy a lot over the years, and especially over the last few months. Great project to support!
Brave continues to show love to Chess Twitch by partnering with one of my favorite chess streamers and commentators, Grandmaster @Anna_Chess.
Visit twitch.tv/anna_chess to see Anna's stream schedule.
I can practically feel the impact @Brave is making on the World. It's as if 15 million people collectively put their foot down in defiance to online surveillance, causing the Earth to quake in response. #WeAreBrave
Mmmm. Brave Coin Wallpapers. Light, Medium, and Dark. Set them as your custom background image on Brave's New Tab Page via the Customize option, and keep a close eye on my feed for chances to win a real one 🙂
It is absolutely wonderful to see the Brave apparatus come to life. Brave Ads is going to shake things up.
Users will earn 70% of revenues for their participation. And more BAT means more support for Creators.
Brave is reshaping the Web into a more fair and equitable system 🦁
Brave 1.5.120 is rolling out on Android. This build contains significant updates and, as a result, many improvements to performance and battery life. We'll have more to say on this soon.
I spent a few hours today just reviewing Brave efforts in 2018, and thinking about what we'll do in 2019. I'm so excited for what lies ahead. I don't have anybody to tell this to—since it's the middle of the night—so I'm telling you, Twitter. 2019 will be a game-changer 😉
Tab Groups in @brave are awesome—a major productivity booster. Create a group at any time, drag tabs in or out (or specify related tabs beforehand with shift+click). Set custom labels, colors, move a group to a new window, and even click to toggle collapse/expand as needed.
BAT and Brave remain one of the few examples of a blockchain (or "crypto") project that anybody can easily understand:
Get rewarded for your attention (your data remains private). Keep those rewards, or pass them on to others. A private, secure, and equitable Web.
In 1995, the average web page was about 14kb in size. Today it is several megabytes.
Call me old-fashioned, but I think we should work towards getting back to smaller pages.
Cutting out trackers and ads that rely upon them is a major step in the right direction.
Save the bits.
Brave Talk stacks up nicely in comparison with Zoom. Built with @Brave's a priori commitment to privacy, runs directly in the browser, no limit on quantity or duration of calls, and is easily auditable as open source. It's time to #ZoomOut, and be Brave. brave.com/talk
Just found another Brave Easter egg, only this one is in our publisher service. Instead of an HTTP 429 response when the client makes too many requests in a window, we respond with a 420 "Enhance your calm" code 😂
