Keith Rabois still banging the Miami drum reminds me of the Japanese soldiers in WW2 that stayed in the jungle for decades after the war, still thinking the war was ongoing. Picture this. The year is 2042. The Hyperamerican Kingdom has fallen after the Yarvinian Uprising. It’s full on civil war. America has fallen. There is no functional government. But an aged Keith Rabois continues to shoe-horn Miami into every single conversation like a hammer looking for a nail. He believes it to be America’s only path to salvation.

I'm calling BS. You are not sifting through 2000 pitch decks and meetings for every 1 startup you fund. Your deal flow is not good enough for this to be true.
Top tier firms will fund 0.05 - 0.15% of companies who try to raise from them. In comparison: Harvard's acceptance rate is 3%. This shit is hard.

2 years ago, I shared lessons from hitting $100M… Today, we’re at $1B run rate and profitable; the fastest-growing company in YC history 🔥 The Founder Playbooks of the past decade need to be rewritten. As Co-Founder of Deel I want to share more of how we got here… 👇 Founders are often told to hire a VP of Sales, then get out of the way. What founders misunderstand is that sales isn’t something to delegate. It’s a shared responsibility. It’s why I took on revenue head-first as CRO – not a standard founder move.

Young men, please do not spend your Friday and Saturday nights alone. You are only young once. Live with vitality, motion and joie de vivre. Rally a crew, pregame, talk shit, go out, be boisterous, try talk to a woman or two, have a drink, bum a cigarette, make memories, make mistakes and see where the night takes you. Staying in is a rejection of all the beautiful opportunities available to you. Go out and have fun. Don’t spend your nights inside and alone. You’ll regret it someday if you do.

A Manifesto for Escaping the MVP Industrial Complex // The startup-industrial complex is strangling our minds, our souls, and our seed rounds. Under the guise of innovation, it has entrapped the would-be visionary in a prison of perpetual pivots, vanity metrics, and fake traction. The ideology of “The Lean Startup”, with its pious Minimum Viable Product and relentless Customer Discovery, has become the Holy Scripture of the techno-optimist, replacing risk with spreadsheet models, and true genius with A/B testing. We must reject this tyranny.

The american dream isn’t chasing the bag. It’s getting married and a house and living in a community. You can chase the bag if you want but that’s not the ethos of our great nation. Life has more meaning than being a bug. Idc if you’re a founder or employee because you’re still a bug in the system. And yeah if you win you have a golden ticket out. But fuck off if you think that we need to optimize our economic output. That’s not what makes us great.

Silicon Valley is not driven by greed. It is driven by clout. This is not a bad thing. Once you get it, it all makes sense. Why do founders start companies? Clout Why do VCs invest? Clout Why do employees take jobs? Clout Sure you may think that everyone wants money, but if we are honest with ourselves for just one moment, we realize we are all too rich for that. We live in a post-scarcity society. The only scarce resource is clout. Some of you will try to pretend it’s not, and build/invest/work to provide shareholder value. But what about your LPs?? They are investing for clout! If they wanted actual returns they would put their capital in the S&P 500. They’re bored and they want the clout of having invested in the most clouted companies. Follow the clout anon and you will see the future.

VCs: If you dunk on deep tech grifters, you will gain respect in the circles where people are actually building real things Also they are free clout, take advantage and boost your distribution channels.
GPs: Deep tech founders notice when VCs dunk on other Deep Tech founders. Dunks seem basically like free clout pre public announcement of tech inflection milestone. The hidden cost is you'll burn bridges with founders you won't ever get to meet.

Consider for a second what % of even the most successful startups actually improve society. Some startups straight up promote vices but most are just straight up irrelevant for society. Go down the list of funded companies and imagine they are at their successful end. Who is actually making the world better? Fuck a click through rate. Do something meaningful.

Dive Robotics was a great acquisition. I foresee Anduril speedrunning acquiring more great defense tech startups in the next year. Ideally TRL 6/7, and merging into their own production capabilities at Arsenal 1. Will be interesting to see if this results in a mode closer to biotech in which startups develop their therapeutics/drugs through phase 1 and are then acquired by a major firm capable of phase 2+ and regulatory approval (government sales in def tech case)
