I came home from space 4 years ago this week, and if you've ever wondered what it looks like when you travel through this atmosphere -here you go😳
#Landaversary
I came back from space today in 2017, and re-entry is no easy task. There is roughly a 7 minute loss of signal period when Mission Control has no contact with the spacecraft. This is what it looks like from our POV.
It's pretty much impossible to describe how beautiful our planet is when you see it from space at night- the best I can do is share this video I took from the @Space_Station.
World - take note. The @Space_station is the greatest example of international cooperation in history. Period. We've worked together for decades, putting aside differences, & focusing on what we share; we explore together, as one team, for all of humanity

How super cool this is! Our robot arm releases Cygnus and the spaceship flies away! Moments like this happen all the time on @Space_Station.
June 4th release and departure of Orbital ATK Cygnus.
Cygnus departed after bringing us critical science and supplies. After that, it still had work to do before re-entering Earth's atmosphere- Saffire III experiment and deployment of cubesats.
My favorite pastime in space? Looking out the windows (of course) & taking pictures! Check out this Photo-#SpeedyTime with my crew!
Taking Pictures from Space
Peggy, Fyodor and I are heading home tomorrow, but Komrade, Sergey, and Paolo will be here on the Space Station holding down the fort and sending you amazing pics from space!
Random perk of being an astronaut- you kill it in the selfie game! Even managed to sneak in the Moon (next to my right light) – boom! #NationalSelfieDay@NASA_Astronauts
Thankfully you don't have to be a geography wiz to know what part of Earth you're flying over when you're on the @Space_Station. Our cheat sheet is a little program called 'World Map' that shows astronauts where they are in real time.
It's not uncommon for astronauts to wear sunglasses during docking operations because we're so much closer to the Sun without the shielding benefit of Earth's atmosphere on the @Space_Station... plus they make for an awesome photo! #NationalSunglassesDay@Thom_Astro@astropeggy
Tropical punch attack! Not having gravity means a mess if you spill your drink...but also makes the station a great place for @ISS_Research.
#SpeedyTime: Water in Space
The space station is a one-of-a-kind spot for scientists who want to do experiments where there’s no gravity, to find out how other natural forces function without gravity’s influence.
