This is heartbreaking. These are the two dogs who were murdered on Monday by the police. When one of our supporters had met the two dogs on the tube recently (and taken these photos), their human companion had spoken of how much he adored the two and how soppy they were. Three supporters of Animal Rising were arrested in house raids the afternoon before the Greyhound Derby final. 🚨 The police have reached new levels of absurdity, including taking a seven-year-old’s tablet along with the entire family’s tech in a house raid. This is the same police force that shot and killed two innocent dogs at the beginning of May.  This comes before supporters of Animal Rising even got within distance of Towcester Racecourse. Those arrested by the police were peaceful supporters who were trying to protect dogs. The increase in the suppression of dissent and peaceful protest is a threat to our democracy, and every day we see our democracy withering more and more. Despite these challenges, we will proceed with our intentions to disrupt the Greyhound Derby final tomorrow. As an animal lover, Ben stood up on Saturday to try and prevent horses being harmed and to continue the crucial public conversation about our broken relationship with animals and nature. For those acts, he has been remanded to prison for a month without trial. We will never stop taking action for animal justice. Oscar Elite (pictured) fell at today's Scottish Grand National and was killed shortly after. This is heart-breaking and unnecessary, in a world that has so much potential to just be kind. We don't need to be forcing these beautiful creatures into such dangerous positions. We don't need to be breeding more of them and killing the ones who aren't good enough. It's all so unnecessary. At 3pm, around 25 supporters of Animal Rising attempted to get on to the tracks and prevent the next race from going ahead. Unfortunately, with an enormous and heavy-handed police presence, everyone (and the fences they were attached to) was swiftly removed from the tracks. But we will never stop taking action. Brian May announced his resignation as Vice President of the RSPCA last night, due to the RSPCA’s refusal to denounce and finally drop the @rspcaassured scheme, despite undercover investigations spanning 16 years finding shocking conditions on Assured farms. Rose Patterson, the lead investigator on the RSPCA campaign said: “Brian is right in saying the RSPCA have sacrificed their integrity. By supporting this scheme through scandal after scandal, the RSPCA has turned its back on its core values of protecting all animals. We have shown conclusively that these farms aren’t just a few bad apples - the whole scheme is rotten. “60 animal protection groups have come together to urge the RSPCA to finally drop this awful scheme, which is tarnishing the good work done elsewhere by the RSPCA. When someone as committed to animal protection as Brian May has to denounce the charity he loves, it’s clear the game is up. Our investigations have shown that even at the so-called highest standard, cruelty is endemic in animal farming. As the world’s largest animal charity, the RSPCA needs to drop the scheme and stop endorsing the use of animals on farms.” @DrBrianMay also signed an open letter released yesterday in the @Independent, which was inspired by the rescue of Charlie the pig, who was saved by Animal Rising campaigners from an RSPCA Assured farm. UPDATE: Beau sanctuary hopes slips away 💔 With our petition to Save Beau at almost 40,000 signatures, it’s clear the public wants Beau to live out her life in peace after she was repeatedly hit by a Surrey police car before being returned to the farm she escaped from. We have been in communication with a number of great sanctuaries who have offered to give her a happy home, we understand some individuals have even offered the farmer some money for her release. We hear these offers have so far been declined because Beau is a ‘prized breeding heifer’ and will be used to produce pedigree calves before, eventually, meeting the same heartbreaking fate suffered by every other cow in animal agriculture. The media has also lost all interest in Beau’s heartbreaking story and have stopped reporting on her, which lessens the hopes that public pressure could encourage her release. Our next option would be to go onto the farm without permission and rescue Beau, but because of how widely her story was talked about, guaranteeing safety in a sanctuary is practically impossible. No matter how much effort we can put into rescuing her from the farm, her ‘fame’ would put any sanctuary at a high risk of shutting down if found by the authorities. We’re terribly sad to say there is nothing we can do for her. Beau’s story has touched so many of us who connected to her as an individual. After fighting so hard for her, we all feel heartbroken, as we’re sure many of you do who are reading this. We all, as animal lovers who see clearly the injustice of animal farming, experience this grief as a familiar feeling. Beau is, of course, just like so many other cows trapped in the farming industry. Each one are living, breathing, feeling beings who suffer greatly, and all deserve love and affection. It is for Beau and every calf like her that we promote a transition to a plant-based world, and it is for all farmed animals like her we have exposed the lies of the RSPCA Assured scheme, which maintains this horrendous industry by covering up the cruelty suffered by so many. The panicked actions of these horses just before today's main race can bust the racing industry's myths better than we can: "They're just a bit excited." No. They're anxious and don't want to race. "They love to race." No. They love to run. Those are two different things. And in this case, many are running out of fear. Horses run naturally from fear of being left behind by the pack and attacked as prey. "They're trained for this." Really? Then why do they need to be controlled by excruciating metal mouth bits? These “equine athletes” did not get a choice in this matter, they never signed up for this or were informed of the risks. Ben is free!!! After taking action to protect animals at the Epsom Derby, Ben was remanded for a month to Wandsworth prison. Today at his hearing, he was given an 18 week suspended sentence alongside community service. We regret to hear the tragic news from Aintree Racecourse this afternoon that 9 year old horse Envoye Special has died from fatal injuries during the 4:05pm Foxhunters chase - on the first day of this year's Grand National Horseracing Festival. This was their first time running on the infamous track at Aintree which took the lives of 4 other horses in last year's Festival alone. No animal should die in the name of sport or food. We are supposed to be a nation of animal lovers, it's time we rally together to protect the horses at Aintree and cancel the Grand National. We will no longer be bystanders to this suffering. Let's create a world in which no animal has to be subjected to the cruelty that Envoye Special experienced. Stating: "...as more and more damning evidence comes to light, I find the RSPCA's response completely inadequate..." he continued, "...I feel the only acceptable policy would have been the complete dismantling of the scheme. Instead, the RSPCA have tried to defend their position, and in doing so, in my view, have sacrificed their integrity." This couldn’t have been an easy decision. This morning the Times exposed shocking practices at RSPCA Assured slaughterhouses, following the release of our undercover investigation. The RSPCA says they are taking the situation seriously, and has suspended 3 slaughterhouses, however this isn’t the case of one bad apple: this exposé proves no slaughter - RSPCA or otherwise - is humane. Improving welfare standards within these inherently flawed systems can only go so far. All farms and slaughterhouses in this investigation were chosen randomly, and serious welfare breaches were found at every single one. These are not isolated “bad apples” but indicative of deeper issues within the industry.
