🇯🇪 The Duchess of Edinburgh has visited Jersey! Earlier this week, Her Royal Highness spent time in Jersey, meeting those driving sustainable practices in the Island’s farming and fishing sectors, and learning more about efforts to educate young people on the origins of their food. Her Royal Highness also visited Les Écréhous, in what is believed to be the first visit from a Member of the Royal Family, met with EYECAN Jersey, a charity supporting islanders living with sight impairment, and attended a reception for the NSPCC, of which The Duchess is Patron.

🥋 An inspiring morning with REORG, learning about the work the charity does to support military personnel, veterans, and emergency service workers through Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training. At the renowned Roger Gracie Academy in Hammersmith, The King joined a discussion with REORG students to hear how the sport is used to help those facing physical, social, and mental challenges. His Majesty watched demonstrations taking place on the mats, met Academy students, presented a black belt to a REORG team member — and received his own white belt!

🏏 This morning, The King welcomed the Afghan national women’s cricket team to Clarence House. The team was set up during the Afghan Republic in 2010, but lost recognition as a national team following the Taliban’s return to power. In Afghanistan, women and girls are banned from playing sport, along with other restrictions on their education, work and public life. His Majesty was able to hear the stories of many of the players who fled Afghanistan and have rebuilt their lives as refugees, playing club cricket informally, and campaigning for recognition.

Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict — a moment to reflect on the devastating impact of conflict around the world, with women and girls often most at risk of harm. The Duchess of Edinburgh has long been a passionate advocate for the vital role that women play in peacebuilding and drawing attention to the issue of conflict-related sexual violence that continues to be perpetrated around the world. Her Royal Highness has met survivors, peacebuilders, medical professionals and changemakers across the globe — from the Democratic Republic of the Congo to Kosovo, South Sudan, Lebanon, Chad and beyond. Through listening, learning and lending her voice, The Duchess continues to shine a light on the courage of survivors and the urgent need for global action.

The day began with the traditional Royal Procession, where members of the Royal Family arrive along the track in horse-drawn landaus. 🌸 @Ascot Racecourse was founded by Queen Anne in 1711, and has since received the support of a further twelve monarchs. The Ascot summer race meeting officially became a Royal week in 1911.
