Permitting reform can boost energy production, strengthen AI leadership, and help lower costs for hardworking families.

Ed Meese built the modern conservative legal movement.
Late last year, AAF was honored to welcome Ed Meese and all the brilliant originalism scholars of the Ed Meese III Institute for the Rule of Law to Advancing American Freedom.
At 94, Ed Meese has outlived Humphrey's Executor vs. U.S., decided 91 years ago. I visited Meese at his home in Virginia and interviewed him about the rise of the originalist Supreme Court.

I'm very grateful to @TimChapman from @AmericanFreedom for joining Defending Ideas to articulate a strong defense of principled conservatism, and discuss its role in shaping the future of America.
One of my biggest takeaways from this discussion with Tim is this: When you look at the political sides that dominate news coverage and public debate, if you feel a deep sense of frustration and want a better "third" way, the answer is a return to principled conservatism.
Meaning, a vigorous commitment to: the U.S. Constitution, the principles in the Declaration of Independence, the civic skillset of respectful and constructive debate, and the institutions of civil society essential for a healthy constitutional republic.
Do our preferred candidates, elected officials, media figures, and the like, truly model each aspect of that principled conservatism? If not, we must seek out people, institutions, and content that DOES. And lovingly encourage others to do the same.
After this episode, I was filled with optimism that there is a tremendous opportunity for people and institutions of principle to play a major role in shaping American politics, policy, and public life in really meaningful ways.
