I keep having the same conversation about well-designed, affordable, early-career dress watches suitable for a DC job. So sharing a few brand and model options that I have sent repeatedly:
1/ Baltic MR01 - beautiful Breguet numerals, fun micro-rotor movement, and nicely textured dial. Hard to go wrong as a dress watch. ~$600
2/ Lorier Zephyr - while no longer produced, options come up frequently on ebay/elsewhere. Lorier is also producing another dress watch (the Roosevelt) which I haven't seen in-hand but looks great. ~$550-800
3/ Vintage (specifically vintage Omega or Longines) - for the price of any of the above options, you can pick up a recently-serviced vintage Omega. Expect to spend another ~$150 on a nicer leather strap from Delugs or Molequin. ~$500-800+
