BAFTA & Emmy-winning filmmaker: Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone, Ukraine: Enemy in the Woods, Spider-Man of Paris, Escape from Kabul, Four hours at the Capitol…
Our @BBC film ‘Ukraine: Enemy in the Woods’ is nominated for best single documentary @BAFTA. Kate Spankie is also nominated for best editing. Made by a brilliant team at HOYO Films - dedicated to Vovan, Vlad, Dmytro and everyone in the Berlingo Battallion.
Vlad, the young commander in our @BBC film Ukraine: Enemy in the Woods has been killed in battle. He joined the Ukrainian infantry after his hometown was invaded by Russia. Admired for his bravery and leadership. He dreamed of getting his HGV license. He was 19. RIP Vlad.
Vovan, the central figure in our @BBC film 'Ukraine: Enemy in the Woods' has been killed alongside 5 comrades in a Russian tank attack. A kind, genuine soul who cared deeply for his men. Rarely seen without a smile. He leaves behind a wife & two sons. Rest in peace Vovan.
We were granted incredible access to a frontline infantry company, to film Ukraine's war with surprising immediacy & intimacy. Europe’s bloodiest war in living memory, through the eyes of the people fighting it. UKRAINE: ENEMY IN THE WOODS @bbciplayer@bbctwo@bbc 9pm 25th March
Ukrainian forces are outnumbered and outgunned right now. If the West really want to make a difference it is critical that they move lightening fast, or deal with the consequences. "War is young men dying and old men talking"
Vovan was a steelworker from central Ukraine. He told me he wanted to repel the Russians then rebuild his country. A brilliant man, if you haven't met him please watch the film. It was down to him we made it, he filmed most of it, Jesus what a sad end. bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0…

Ukraine: Enemy In The Woods review - This shocking, gripping war film is the most graphic thing ever screened on TV, I give it FIVE STARS writes CHRISTOPHER STEVENS | Daily Mail Online dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/ar…
I had the pleasure of meeting David Amess whilst filming on the Grenfell disaster and fire safety. He was generous and genuinely cared about protecting the lives of people living in tower blocks. He also didn't take himself too seriously. His death is shocking and sad. RIP
In 2015 David Amess was awarded a knighthood for political and public service. How did the newly-knighted Sir David celebrate?
He got dressed up and released this brilliant photo echo-news.co.uk/news/1337479…

👏 Congrats👏 @shabnamdawran
for achieving your dream. Shabnam anchored Primetime news in Afghanistan until the Taliban forced her out. She refused to be silenced. Now Shabnam is broadcasting from London in her new role! 🔥🔥🔥
Super Size Me was a revolutionary film that changed the game & Morgan Spurlocks physical constitution. Taught me a stark lesson about food and economics (tho I still can’t resist maccies). RIP to a great filmmaker.
Peepshow made the fantastic animated graphics for our BBC2 series The Rise of the Murdoch Dynasty, amazingly talented group of people (and very nice too)
Brilliant, immersive reporting by Luke Mogelson. Lays bare the moral complexities faced by foreign and Ukrainian fighters amidst the grit, flying bullets and malfunctioning drones. A journalist for out times nyer.cm/tVDdeqq
"It’s pretty simple: you can’t fuck without a boner," "You have to love what you do. If you don’t, you’ll lose interest part of the way through production. You don’t want to wake up early every morning for a year to work on a movie you don’t want to die for." Guillermo Del Toro
Farewell Louis Benassi; Father, filmmaker, photographer, worker and friend to so many. The most generous soul and the most outrageous. I’ll miss him like mad, as I know many others will. I was very lucky to have known him.
I had the double pleasure of watching the best film I’ve seen this year and bumping into @arthurcary in the screening. Spot on, @FleeMov is absolutely brilliant. I was in bits by the end, in a good way. Needs a big screen.
Flee is a really special documentary, stunning in every respect. An extraordinary story beautifully told. A cut above. I highly recommend watching it in the cinema when it is released early next year. piped.video/WzUVeuX1u04
Amongst the turbulence of this year there’s been some incredible films released - Mogul Mowgli, Les Miserables, 40 year old version, His House, Rocks. Saint Maud
Gordon Brown impressive “This is a global problem, not just a national problem. We’ve had too much America first, India first, China first. We’ve had too much of this populist nationalism. We’re finding that we’re connected and depend on each other, whether we like it or not.”
This podcast is a masterpiece - well done Sue and everyone who worked on it. Brilliant journalism, provides incredible insight and done with empathy and care.
My power’s really low, so this may be the last image I can send. Don’t worry about me though: my time here has been both productive and serene. If I can keep talking to my mission team, I will – but I’ll be signing off here soon. Thanks for staying with me.
ALT Wide-angle photo from NASA’s InSight lander on Mars shows the area in front of the lander in the late afternoon sun. Two science instruments tethered to the lander rest on the sandy surface nearby. Part of the lander’s robotic arm is visible extending down from the top left. Distortion from the wide-angle lens bends the distant horizon into a curved shape, while low-angle sunlight causes a small bluish lens flare on the right side.
