Few people notice it, but on my site I use blurry, animated rectangles as an "idea" metaphor.
That's how I think about early ideas — they are blurry, shapeless, don't have hard edges, they can stay or go, they change colours and move around.
I love intentional blur.

I bought it a year ago and it convinced me even more that SVG Animations is the future of UI.
I've tried Rive and other tools in production, but it seems like SVG Animations is the most native, efficient, and reliable way to build great crisp motion in 2025.

"Gamification" is one of those overrated features, that founders mention every time they want to fix retention.
Spoiler: it will not fix it.
You can't be "Duolingo for X", because gamification itself doesn't drive the main retention trend, but impact micro trends across particular segments of already active users.
I consult startups and I get this idea every week. It's one of those lazy ideas, that can't be done easily AND will not bring any meaningful results in 99% cases. If you're pre-product-market fit and don't have any sort of market dominance, you literally shouldn't even dare to gamify anything.
Still want to improve retention?
1. Understand the right frequency of your product
2. Make your product play good alongside other daily products
3. Be creative on how to create a real need to open your product
And last, but not least — sometimes lower retention is OK. Some things should be more invisible to appear cheaper. For example, don't gamify water bills.

After advising 50+ consumer companies over the last year, the one thing that separates those who can execute and those who can't:
Having a full-time designer in the room at all times
I've met with countless companies that have raised millions—and even one that has raised billions—that do not even have a designer on payroll.
This makes product development broken:
1/ You simply cannot have constructive conversations about ideas without visualizing them in real-time
2/ Your experiments will frequently have inconclusive results because users cannot discover features or they misunderstand how they work
3/ There is no one who can galvanize the team with a vision of what the product could look and feel like
And to be abundantly clear: I'm not referring to visual UI or graphics. I'm talking about someone who can think through the fundamental building blocks of product comprehension—like navigation, interaction and copywriting—and is technically savvy enough to visualize those components in high resolution.
There can certainly be exceptions to not having a designer, like where the CEO is an exceptional visual thinker, but that does not scale beyond a small team.
At the end of day, products live and die in the pixels: it's what the users see and tap. And without someone shepherding that process, you are effectively wandering the desert blind.

Design starts with human creativity: exploration, brainstorm, whiteboard, pen & napkin.
Then it takes form of functional elements, that behave as (or IS) a real product, connected to data and logic.
