'If I think of the 3 most culturally relevant artists in the world - it's obviously XCOPY; here's the culture of the internet. When you properly go down the rabbit hole it's very good. Obviously Beeple, because he's the culture of the internet every day. And then I think it's Diewiththemostlikes because of his commentary of US middle American culture - the death of the American dream'

Not quite a pivot but… To date, Verse has served artists whose work lends itself to ‘drops’, and excluded artists who prefer to release slowly and steadily over time (for no reason other than not having figured it out). That’s changing soon. In November we will be launching ARTIST ROOMS. We’ll be handing the keys over to 8 artists to release works on Verse however and whenever they like. More to follow 🫡

Introducing: ⚡️ GALLERIES ⚡️ To our incredible community We have a major change coming. Soon, we will open Verse up to a small number of galleries and curators. Here’s what this means, why we’re doing it, and how we see our role in the space going forwards. // WHAT THIS MEANS To date, we have run Verse as a gallery, with our team working closely with artists to present digital works IRL and online. We will continue to do this, though will be inviting other galleries to present works on Verse too. These galleries will be able to use our primary & secondary markets, auction mechanics, and everything else our platform has to offer. // WHY WE’RE DOING THIS We believe galleries are the future. They will take the space from thousands of collectors to many millions playing three crucial roles: 1) Curation 2) Artist support 3) Onboarding Let’s start with curation... Strong curation by credible people is key here. The more knowledgable and reputable the gallerists/curators involved, the more seriously our space can be taken. Knowledge and credibility count. And rightfully so. Gallery curation also helps collectors identify exceptional artists. The expertise of a gallerist with a 20-year obsession and an encyclopaedic knowledge of their genre can help collectors and museum acquisition committees alike. Artist support Finding success as an artist - even in this space - requires more than just creating great work. Promotion and marketing matter, and endorsement from the right gallery can help immeasurably. Onboarding When we use the word 'gallery', we don't necessarily refer to art world galleries. We see the digital gallerist of the future as anyone with extensive knowledge and passion for digital art, with or without a physical space, looking to help promote artists to a new audience. We will be helping galleries from different worlds show artworks to new audiences of new collectors. // HOW WE SEE OUR ROLE IN THE SPACE GOING FORWARDS Today, it's hard for these galleries to get involved in digital art. Most galleries don’t have the tech expertise to build their own platform (after all, they’re art specialists, not tech people). Most of their clients don’t have a crypto wallet. And they risk reputational damage given the existing stigma. These are the problems we aim to fix. We are here to empower galleries to offer serious digital art in a serious way, to wallet-less collectors, in fiat. Verse is not and never will be about speculation. We will help galleries present works by artists they truly believe in, and help collectors buy works they are excited to own. —— We will be announcing some of the galleries we will be partnering with in the coming days. We will also be announcing a new investment round, as well as some significant product developments, including on chain minting, instant minting, and a two-way OpenSea integration that will mean any work on Verse can be bought on OS, and vice verse. We would like to thank all the collectors and artists who have supported us so far. We are so grateful and excited to be on this incredible journey with you all, and can’t wait for what’s to come 🙌❤️

Verse Solos | WILLIAM MAPAN Intimacy We are thrilled to formally announce our fifth Verse Solos exhibition - William Mapan’s Intimacy. A year in the making, William’s exhibition will feature two new series from two new algorithms that consider the relationship between artist and computer in creating generative art. Sketchbook A (sample output depicted below) is a series of what appear to be scrawled childlike sketches, created with coloured pencils. Upon closer inspection, the works are anything but childlike, and anything but scrawled. The hard edges of the colours are the work of a computer, and are mimicking the texture of crayons. William’s code creates these textures from colour, replicating tangible 3D materiality on a 2D digital canvas. The resulting images are nostalgic tributes to the unrestrained creativity of childhood, and deliberately distance themselves from the polished aesthetics most commonly associated with digital art. Subsequently, William calls on the viewer to contemplate the way in which artist and computer collaborate in the creation of art today. He also prompts us to consider the extent to which preconceived ideas about physical art influence us when critiquing digital artworks. William’s second series, Through Your Eyes, pushes things further. It continues to create organic aesthetics suggestive of analogue methods, imitating the appearance of materials such as coloured pens and highlighters. However, they also draw attention to the innate human tendency to search for shapes within abstract forms; our eyes involuntarily search for meaningful anchors within the series’ images. We will be presenting works from both series IRL in London, with the physical exhibition opening on the 3rd of October for Intimacy’s Opening Night, 6-8pm. From 7pm, Leyla Fakhr will be moderating a panel discussion between William and esteemed curators Melanie Lenz, Digital Curator at the V&A, and Tamar Clarke-Brown, Arts Technologies Curator at the Serpentine Galleries. We’d love for you to join us. If you would like to, please kindly RSVP (link below). Further details and sale dates for both series will be released in the coming days. Opening Night 3rd October, 6-8pm Exhibition 4-8th October Address Pavilion Gallery 4 Cromwell Place South Kensington London SW7 2JE
