Everyone’s throwing around trillion-dollar forecasts, but let’s talk about what actually matters if we want to get there. Today (2025): Tesla says 5,000 Optimus. BYD wants 1,500. Real deployments are still tiny, mostly in labs and controlled settings. The economics problem: Right now a humanoid can cost anywhere from the price of a car to the price of a house. That’s not scalable. Until costs fall into a practical range, adoption will stay niche. The real bottleneck: It’s not just hardware. It’s data. Training humanoids for every environment is slow, expensive, and fragmented. This is why progress feels uneven. Where things shift: Instead of chasing a “solve everything” humanoid, the winners will focus on high-value tasks that matter today and build outwards from there.
