After replaying Canto 1, I’ve gotta say, despite being bogged down by exposition, Gregor’s story is told in such a concise and effective way it’s impressive.
It’s bleak, it’s terrible, and it’s swiftly moved past, in favor of Canto 2’s jokes which IS Gregor’s coping mechanism.

Yeah Canto 2 is the worst Canto but it’s still not a bad one. I think a lot of the problems are with just how mechanically boring the dungeon is, and how all of Rodya’s backstory is confined in one, ONE node at the very end.

I really feel like lowering their overall EXP cost would have made 00’s viable early-mid Canto options.
