ALT Our core values Here at the SPSFC, we believe diversity, equity and inclusion are positive things, as are all other forms of racial, cultural, gender and sexual orientation acceptance. The table is functionally infinite. Everyone gets a seat. If you don’t like it, cry about it in your substack or whatever. Nobody, ultimately, passes the purity test. However, we will not ignore the utterances of bigots and hatemongers in our community – while we are not here to police people’s opinions, we will not tolerate hate speech and other backwards attitudes in SPSFC channels such as Discord, Xwitter, and other social media. Our goal is to: • Ensure that everybody in the SPSFC community has a voice • Ensure that all members of the SPSFC community feel safe to live their lives and express their beliefs • Minimize and contain clashes of ideology

ALT SPSFC community structure Team leads Team leads form the core of the SPSFC leadership. Team leads are decided in a public forum and on a volunteer basis according to willingness and ability, at the outset of each SPSFC round. Each team lead heads up a judging group of varying size. Some team leads also act as administrators / moderators for SPSFC social media (Xwitter, Facebook, Discord, Instagram…). Their power to wield the ban-hammer is dependent on consensus of the other team leads, although in emergency situations a thread may be nuked for the good of the general discussion and preservation of vibes. Judges Under the team leads are the judges, who are expected to fulfill their roles and handle minimal interaction with the authors (contestants) and commit to full and open communication with their teams and leads. Authors Authors make up the bulk of the SPSFC membership, and are expected to abide by this code of conduct and commit to our core values.

ALT Here at the SPSFC we are all grown adults. The bottom line is, you are expected to behave as such. Interaction between judges and authors is ideally minimal, but is left to individual discretion. The SPSFC leadership cannot control it, except in extreme cases where social media interactions are causing clear-cut issues affecting the running of the competition or threatening direct harm to a judge or author. Cases of books in breach of our core values The SPSFC does not pick and choose its contestants based on their fiction and the acts and ideologies at play in them. Cases of judges in breach of our core values These issues must be dealt with as early as possible in the competition, and clearly communicated with the SPSFC membership at large. Cases of authors in breach of our core values The SPSFC has less direct control over what our authors say and do than we do over our judges. We are not the morality police – but actions and opinions have consequences.
