toddlers are excellent at brute forcing
10 minutes of attempts:

i _love_ working from home, but seasonal depression is one thing that kills me
i work at home, work out at home, eat at home, it only escalates
some days, the self depreciation is out of control w/out distractions
friendly reminder to myself and whoever else needs it:
GET OUT
kids these days will never know the joys
of packing up dozens of cables
a giant CRT and tower
keyboards/mice
mountain dew
jamming it all into the car just to reassemble it in your buddy's basement for the weekend
and being completely worthless for the next 48 hours
bliss
i've kept personal tweets off of here for a while now, but in a couple weeks, i get to marry this man π₯Ή
it makes me happy to realize i've lost count of our adventures, and to know there will be so many more
i look forward to continuing this journey with you, @eric_capuano π€
95% of what i follow on twitter is infosec/tech, the rest is space and cute animals.
and i gotta say, if you are a man in our industry saying that you support the decision made on friday...
you're gonna have a bad time.
went to apple store to send off to replace screen
"can i have your pw?"
"no..."
"they're going to have to wipe it then to run diagnostics"
"just replace the screen, and make sure it comes on, don't need diagnostics"
are you kidding me, no privacy or wipe your data
no, @Apple..
10 years ago, almost to the day i started working at @RedHatNews in september, i visited red hat's campus.
told myself that within 10 years i wanted to be a RH architect and get my RHCA.
today, the latter finally happened π
so stupid excited right now.
about to fly home
listening to the guy in front of me mansplain the internet and "the cloud" to the woman next to him
he also offered another woman his lap for a seat
i now know where he works, and it turns out i also know his boss
do better, people :(
cleaning out the toy bin this afternoon, and found this antique π€£
GATHER 'ROUND, KIDS! LET ME TELL YOU A STORY ABOUT THIS BAD BOY, AND P2P IN THE GOOD OL DAYS
did a full write up on the new home network setup! had so much fun building this the last few months <3 huge thanks to @ubnt short-stack.net/home-networkβ¦
my grandpa passed away early this morning, peacefully
i was able to go sit with him sunday while he slept
the nurse at hospice said he could still hear me, so i sat and talked to him, and i cried, and hugged him goodbye
idk which one of you dipshits clipped me in the paris hallway
but
(and it's sad that this needs to be said)
don't touch people who don't want to be touched
find a new @defcon game
this week has been so surreal
seeing things you've poured yourself into for so long come to life, and seeing people enjoy the fruits of your labor is an incredible feeling π
now... time for some OpenSOC :)
my dad is at his house, sitting outside drinking on a sunday afternoon, and decided to call me out of the blue and talk for an hour, and told me he's proud of me
he has no idea how much i needed that π
frustrating part about this industry
you can be great at your job
but you need to learn everything else (forever) in order to keep that
my days are so full of fail most of the time
always learning has a lot of benefits, but... not always the best feeling
dear infosec fam,
a huge part of why we have the cons, events, projects, and knowledge we have and share is b/c of the people who volunteer to pour their time and hearts into it.
be nice. stop the drama. stop the pettiness.
step back. remember why we do what we do.
<3,

6yo requested i make lunches for her the last week or so (usually gets school lunch), so of course i will, and i always leave her notes
("i love you", "i'm proud of you", the list goes on)
opened her backpack tonight, she saved my notesπ
sat down on the plane
woman: excuse me, this is my seat
me: *show her my seat number* (it's right)
woman: *looks at her ticket* "FUCK!!!" (very loudly) *throws all her things everywhere*
she is now throwing a fit/swearing a lot in her seat
this ought to be a fun flight π£
almost a year ago, i automated a large part of our infrastructure that was repetitive and frequent
and then i built a thing that deploys said automation
i recently built a thing that renders what i previously built completely unnecessary
past self is so pissed at current self
christmas was a harsh reality check of how far i've fallen
things need to change, the drinking needs to stop, mental health needs fixing
i am not me anymore
i set up a vpn for a former client to access their internal systems
they said they "didn't like" vpns
so they moved the systems to an external subnet after i finished the project
allow all tcp 0.0.0.0/0
so there's one reason π
parenthood is when you're driving and see a train
and you yell "HI TRAIN!!!!"
only to realize that the kids aren't even in the car with you
π€¦ββοΈ
watching @defcon#defcon26 closing ceremonies
hearing @thedarktangent drop the name "hacker tracker" on stage is... so surreal
i created it to give back to the community when i couldn't be there, and it has turned into so much more
so much feels π
cc @sethlaw@_advice_dog
it doesn't matter how many hundreds of times i've done this in my life.
every time i have to delete a partition in order to resize it, i have precisely 12 panic moments before hitting 'w'.
my grandma was put in hospice this week, and this morning my dad told me she passed, surrounded by family π
she was a tiny feisty badass, and she's the reason i grew up loving the stones and rod stewart
windchimes and the smells of summer will forever remind me of her β€οΈ
5yo came home today sad bc she didn't get invited to a bday party, the other girls did.
said her friends are mean to her at school.
sits alone at lunch, plays alone at recess.
she's weird, and so much fun.
i wish 5yo me could go play with her. this broke my heart tonight.
5yo is on her ipad playing minecraft
said it was going slow
so i watched her close the game, kill all the other apps running, and go back to her game
"sometimes that works for me"
i am so proud rn π€
hormonal imbalances have put me in my own personal hell
the depression/anxiety/anger/self hatred the last 6-8 months is like nothing i've ever experienced
hopefully got things figured out, hopefully dosages are right, hopefully up from here π€π
_please_ let it be up from here
scrolled through twitter tonight.. why is this industry so full of drama?
i'm not even sure if drama is the right word
learn the things
do the things
grow
that's it
so much energy wasted on things that don't matter
for the better part of a decade, i drank 6-8 shots of whiskey 5-7 nights a week
tonight i had a glass and a half of wine, and it was my first drink since defcon
i don't know how i did what i did for so long
good riddance π€
i bought a soap dispenser online, plain ol soap dispenser
and it came with a ridiculous amount of baby yoda / mandalorian stickers?
stoked and confused
happy tuesday
need to encrypt existing AWS instances?
1) shut down instance
2) snapshot instance volume
3) copy the snapshot and encrypt w/KMS key
4) create volume from encrypted snapshot
5) detach old vol / attach new vol w/same mount point
6) start instance, now encrypted π₯π₯π₯
SSO and MFA should π not be a paid/premium feature π
the fact that this still needs to be said is absolutely ridiculous!
reposting this list: sso.tax/
i remember back in high school and college, when we'd stay awake for up to 4 days at a time for our LAN parties
and even then, i don't remember feeling as tired as i am after a saturday or sunday with 3 kids
dear every open source project ever,
@digitalocean has some of the best docs / examples / walkthroughs
observe + take notes
we can all learn something(s) from this
they know how to do it right
excited to announce that next week will be the start of a new chapter
next week will be my last week at SPARC/booz allen, as i join the nerds at @Recon_InfoSec
stoked to get back to the startup life/grind/adventures π
