I'm sitting at the café at the border and this Zimbabwean truck driver approaches me. He asks if I can Hotspot him. He desperately needs to call his boss. I'm like, yes sure bro. He takes a seat next me. I connect the guy. He goes ahead and calls the boss. They talk for like a minute. All sorted. Next he is watching YouTube videos and laughing like crazy.
I just opened my FNB app to buy more data for both of us now. I'm not going to stand in the way of my guy's happiness 😀

I grew up in this little 3 roomed house (kitchen, living room and bedroom). It was not just my grandmother and I living there. We had aunties and cousins too. So you can imagine what meal time and sleeping arrangements looked like. We had so many neighbors that lived that way too.
I know what poverty is. I understand what poverty does to one's self-esteem. It robs you of your human dignity and denies you a certain perspective on life.
A big part of my desire for Matero is to help restore that dignity in it's people and give them hope for a better tomorrow.

Thank you for all the public and private support and encouragements since I announced my move to stand for Matero MP in 2026. Zambia needs to change and ASAP. I arrived at Kazungula nice and early this afternoon. Botswana side took me under 10 minutes to clear both immigration and customs.
My home side, Zambia took forever because of all sorts of procedures and just bad attitudes from some people behind these counters. Come time to pay for the bridge toll and council levy, the only cashier available leaves to go and buy food. No sense of urgency whatsoever. Meanwhile, there is a line of people waiting to PAY... And nobody seems bothered about this.
What are we doing? We can't build a well functioning country like this. Not possible.

There's a youngster I hired a few years ago. I put him on and taught him the game as I know it. Tried my best to mentor him and show him the ropes on how to build relationships and a good life for himself, like I do with everybody around me. He was always impatient and I would often advise him to slow it down and take his time. He finally decided to go his own way because he felt I was in his way.
I found out this morning that he got involved with bad people and they did some illegal deal and now he's on the run.
Dear youngster, chill. You can have all the beautiful things life can offer but how you get there matters. Building anything real and sustainable takes time. Be patient even as you work hard.
