OG Twitter mobile team partial reunion in Tokyo. Amazing time talking about past, present, and future. Hope someday we can all meet up... cc @bhaggs@thuske and all the others
Me buying the iPhone 12 Pro instead of the mini is like me buying an F-350 pickup instead of the hybrid BMW 3 series I always wanted because I might need to haul equipment at my non-existent ranch
30s life: as I was putting on my shoes in the entryway I heard thumping and thought “who’s outside blasting sick bass” only to realize it was the sound of dryer balls bouncing and softening my towels
In Asia where masks have always been a thing FaceID was criticized for overlooking this. But it was waved away as a bizarro Asia thing and ignored. And here we are.
Pretty sure raised in south Texas kid me wouldn’t believe it if I told them one day they’d be flying in from Tokyo to join Twitter Woodstock in Houston. It’ll never feel ordinary, nor do I want it to. Grateful to @jack and the rest of the team #oneteam
What I don’t get is grown people insisting on inconveniencing others so they can sit next to their friend/SO on a few hour flight — you’re on the same plane, same destination, you’ll see them when you get there
Years ago someone said that FB was for following people you know, Twitter was for following people you wish you knew. Being able to be exposed to diverse perspectives is one of my favorite things about Twitter. (And being reminded of how much you don't know keeps one humble.) nitter.app/bbylychee/status/95284…
My sincerest condolences. He helped me out many times back in the day. I remember being a little intimidated at first, but quickly realized he was an incredibly good person, and really enjoyed bantering with him.
Skipping iPhone mania this year. Don’t need an iPhone larger than my face, still happy with my X. Suica (NFC transit/charge card) transfer to new device also a new source of friction.
Never was the type to want to return to childhood, but there’s something to be said for night before Christmas vs night before election difficulty sleeping
Folks older than me will tell me I’m still young, but as someone old enough to be “the old guy in the club” Slack is the first piece of technology that’s made me feel old
I've never been to Bangkok but somehow am confident that whoever is using my credit card there could be eating somewhere better than "The Pizza Company"
“I’ve aged this wine for over five years” while objectively true is also a nicer way of saying “I left it in a closet for a few years and couldn’t be bothered to drink it when I found it while cleaning”
I never trusted Google Maps. But it's been particularly bad the last year or so; lots of 臨時休業. Even tabelog or their own websites will be wrong. These days I usually call or check their SNS first; I've been burned so many times this year, it's ridiculous.
Recently in Tokyo we've been having a worse winter than Seattle... not fun. Plans for this weekend are to wait out this weather indoors with hot pot and sake.
I don't like how instant messaging apps have become always-on; every conversation is now like establishing a TCP connection that must start with an initial "you there?" handshake
Every now and then In-and-Out will do a pop up shop in Tokyo and people will get excited that they may be coming to Japan, but there already exist many infinitely better burgers. I have always firmly believed the only US fast food chain we need is Popeyes
Been way too long since I wrote any code, but had fun putting together a bot to notify me of Tokyo’s daily case count.
(They’re announced everyday at 15:00.)
