Honeybees are non-native, invasive species brought by settlers & are big biz. We need native bee biodiversity for resilience w/ climate change. Managed bees compete w/ & spread disease to native pollinators, making ecosystems and ag systems more vulnerable.
In the spring, my office was happy to tell Country Bee Honey Farm that six summer jobs would be made available through the Canada Summer Jobs Program. Today, I got an inside look into the farm! Jason and I talked about the importance of local food security and our pollinators.
