2 weeks of hosting summer tournaments and I’m convinced we need a sit down with all parents. Umpires don’t suck. Stop getting in fights with other teams parents. Kids are great. They’re thankful and polite for the most part. Adults have been alarmingly bad.
I cannot stop watching this.. 1. This umpire finish is one of the best punchies I’ve seen. 2. The pitcher/Catcher/Umpire in sync with their arms is amazing.
Why do people always include “go where you can play” when they talk about the difference in divisions(D1/D3)? Just find a good fit. There is no easy path. It’s all hard.
Playing SS at Tennessee as a skinny freshman hitting .100, some old lady above our dugout politely asked me in a thick southern accent “is that your batting avg or your weight??”
Big thanks to Denison and more importantly @CoachDeegan .. There’s not very many people in the world that have a boss that makes you feel like they work for you and not the other way around. I’m incredibly lucky.
I think someone should start a summer org where they just taught kids how to play hard. Like run on and off the field, run out every ball they hit, back up bases. Parents/coaches can only cheer or yell at their own or other kids lack of hustle.
Couldn’t get the PS4 to connect to the server and I go upstairs and my wife is on a company Skype conference. Unreal lack of respect for the work I’m trying to do down here.
I love summer ball coaches saying umpires aren’t being held accountable..you know who else isn’t? Summer ball coaches. Holding guys on 2nd and 3rd base. Having your pitcher cutting balls to plate. Having guys sprint past the SS with the ball and then celebrating them being safe..
I would like to announce I’m officially opting out of house projects this weekend. This was a tough decision so please respect my privacy during this time. Please reach out to my agent with any questions.
I’m going to start answering recruiting emails and calls like summer ball teams answer us.. “sorry I’m only looking for ‘top-end, elite arms right now with no inning counts”
Every summer I gain a new pet peeve with summer ball and get pissy on here and people get mad at me so I’m not going to do it this year. New summer, new me. Turning a new leaf and won’t talk about the damn phones bungee corded to every $5k back stop net. Not doing it.
Every day on here there is someone else telling players the blueprint for how to act to get recruited. Let’s just stop acting like we have the answers to something as flawed as recruiting. And the system only gets more flawed when ppl aren’t themselves. Be yourself. Find a fit.
Being on a college visit is not the time to explain how you had “poor coaching” or “didn’t like the coaching staff”. Maybe you did, maybe you didn’t, but it doesn’t matter. You think your college coaches are going to be perfect? Far from it. Chance to show respect and good taste
Enjoy seeing the posts for recruits that since D1 rosters will be loaded it’s fine “just go to JUCO/D2/D3 and PLAY!” The message is wrong. You can go compete. Level of school does not equal more opp. If your focus is playing you’re already focused on something you don’t control.
The same ppl that think 100 pitches over 7 inn is blasphemy in summer baseball are the guys throwing their guy an efficient 3 innings and will bring him back the following day for 3 more.
Opening day for college baseball. ESPN+ app is about to be worn out. Don’t see why major stations don’t pick up these games without the mlb coming to an agreement.
Thoughts on travel ball after day 2: $5 to enter the park. Or $20 to enter if you wish to argue calls. Split the money amongst umpires. If you only pay $5 and you argue we remove you. Environment would be so much better.
One of the best group of humans I’ve had the chance to coach. This group made the yard a fun place to be for everyone. They were great and they shared their greatness with everyone in the program.
We asked the seniors before the season what they thought would be a successful season. They responded "To leave the jersey in a better place". There is no doubt that this group pushed the program forward and left a lasting legacy!
Thank you!

MONDAY MOUND VISIT: PLAYING ENGAGED CATCH
One of the most under-appreciated things in baseball is playing catch at a high level. Drop some comments and share!
Any young people who are interested in coaching, I have a fantastic opportunity to not only shadow a college coach tomorrow but also get hands on training. We will be edging the outfield at Big Red Field. Come see if this is the career for you! PS. No pay
My take to help travel baseball after hosting for one day: get on and off the field. Takes no ability but does take some emphasis. There were 10+ innings today that I played more than a 3:30 length song between and they hadn’t thrown it down yet.
Somethings are said at a high competition level that people confuse as disrespect. Much rather have this on the mound than a guy wanting someone to save him.
MONDAY MOUND VISIT: Dealing with Emotions and Getting BIG!
Thanks for all the views. What started as a way to simply let me work on being short and to the point (and still working btw) turned into 30k views in 7-8 Mondays. Appreciate it!
If you say “what’s up?” Or “how’s it going?” To a passing stranger and they stare back through you with zero reaction it should be culturally acceptable to trip them as they go by.
Velo day for the P’s at Big Red Field. Had 11 arms up with avg. top FB Velo at 87.2 mph. Top FB at 92.6. Most cans of Bang and Velo Slaps in that bullpen ever.
Saw a post where a pro scout said he carves out time to watch pro games every year to “recalibrate” his eyes. Absolutely necessary if you’re trying to evaluate talent. This player is good? “Compared to what”. Go watch a pro game. Go watch a college summer league game.
As baseball Twitter goes into an amateur frenzy as it does every summer over velocity vs strikes.. if you don’t throw strikes you can’t get outs. If you don’t throw very hard you won’t get outs. Throw hard strikes. Period
Things officially open to sponsorship deals for the upcoming 22’ season:
My fungo, my sunglasses, my buckets I keep charts on (looking at you Lowe’s), my turfs, my glove, and last but not least my chart bag. DMs are open.
If this Oil change place thinks I’m coming back in 3k miles they’re soft. I’ve trained my truck to stretch it out. We won’t start breaking in this new oil til 4-5k. Fact
