The same thing as every other business would do. Some clients think they can afford not to pay you without any consequences.. not with me - don’t let them fuck with you as well. EDITORS 🚨 Why do you ask other editors what to do as a video editor? Have you got at least one client? Then ask him what you should do as video editor - it’s a gold mine. Clients are the ones who should be telling you what you should and should not do as a video editor. How would the other editor even know? If he’s got a point the only thing how could he figure that out is by a client telling him that.

Give your clients more than they ask for. Overdeliver. If they want simple edit with few animations put sfx on top of it. If they want few b-rolls to be added, add some animations on top of it. They’ll be happy. Happy clients = Longterm clients Longterm clients = Good testimonials Good Testimonials = More clients —> Repeat Overdeliver.

As expected, so many new editors that started a year ago with the vision of earning "easy" money are already giving up. Nothing surprising about that, they found out it’s not as easy as it seems.

Unfortunately I can’t but you know I wish I could. Can you??

A beginner video editor asked me this question in DMs. I think answering to this via post could be also valuable for others so here we go. I started with video editing when i was around 14 yo. The first year was just playing around with premiere pro learning all the basics and some intermediate edits. I was editing purely for fun but then I figured I could make some money out of this. I was also watching few streamers on Twitch so I figured that I could edit sample video for one of them and send him an email with the video attached. Surprisingly first client I have ever landed was this streamer. It worked. Now, time has changed. I understand the fact that most of you don’t want to edit for gaming streamers but you’d like to edit for someone else who’s not streaming. Although the time has changed it doesn’t mean that the concept of reaching out to all these different creators should change. So what’s the best action to take when you want to start making money with video editing? Start outreaching. - cold DMs - cold Emails Anything and everything all together. Feel free to do "low quality" cold outreach. You can send around 100 cold DMs every single day. BUT, you should also do some high quality outreach. At least once a day edit a sample video for free for potential client. Send him the edited video across all social platforms while you are sending pure cold DMs to others. This will give you the best chances to land your first client. But remember - to earn money with video editing, you first need to learn how to edit videos. Start with the basics, once you’ll be good only then start worrying about clients. Feel free to ask me any questions in DMs and I’ll happily answer to them. Things I tried before video editing: I tried Social Media Marketing I tried Dropshipping I tried Webdesign I tried Thumbnail Design I failed in all of those but would I say it was a waste of time? Not at all.. As a matter of fact I didn’t really fail, I gained experience in all of these areas. As a video editor I am in contact with web designers, SMMA owners on day to day basis. I can understand them, I know their pain points which helps me and makes me better in my niche. I wouldn’t have this advantage if I wouldn’t "fail" in all of those. What have you tried before doing what you do now?

You won’t get any clients because you suck at outreach. You’ve chosen one outreach method: - Cold emails - Cold DMs - Warm Up DMs - Cold calling Let’s say you’ve chosen cold DMs and you’ve decided to use some script you found on the internet. After first 30 DMs you sent no one replied to you. Now you are thinking that this script doesn’t work. BUT Did you know that every 90 DMs you send you usually get 1 reply? No you didn’t know that.. because you changed the script, decided to do cold emails or gave up. You see, consistency is key. Pick your script and stick with it. Send 300 DMs and ONLY THEN you can change your script. BUT Don’t change the whole thing. Change only one sentence - send other 300 DMs, analyze, compare. That’s how you gain experience. After you send enough of DMs you’ll have enough data eventually. At that moment you double down on winners and stick with that script you know works. BUM, you landed your client. Thanks to the consistency and volume.
