This tweet originates from a conversation I had at @Ripple Swell. One of the most overlooked parts of Web3 growth is language.
A multi-lingual user from Germany and Korea asked me whether we support either of the languages and told me how much it mattered.
It reminded me of something we see in the data every day: accessibility drives adoption.
Supporting 59 languages isn’t a “feature”, it’s an extension of our philosophy about access, access anywhere, to anyone, the real nature of self-custody.
And what really makes this is the fact that most of the languages on Xaman are translated by community members. Essentially solidifying that philosophy. For the community, by the community.
It’s a big reason why we’ve grown for one example at 50%+ year-over-year in places like Japan, where local-language UX determines whether a user feels confident enough to take their first self-custodial step.

This amendment is one of the most important ones the XRPL ecosystem has seen in a long time—something you’d assume was already there for years but, surprisingly, wasn’t.
Batch transactions finally allow projects to monetize in a transparent, fair way, without shady practices such as signing a (second) fee transaction on your behalf without making you aware of it or destroying the user experience.
Now, XRPL projects can generate revenue by delivering high-quality products people actually want to use—just like every other successful ecosystem does.
This is the kind of freedom and flexibility we need for sustainable growth. If XRPL wants to thrive, we need to support projects that provide value and can sustain themselves, innovate, and grow. Batch transactions unlock real opportunities on the XRPL.
It's sad to see it's taking so long. Think of all the great projects that have built something and even some that reached success but had to leave because there was no straightforward way to generate revenue on the XRPL without needing to jump through hoops, destroying the user experience, or engaging in shady business practices.
Batch transactions change all that, but I doubt those projects will return. But they have paved the way for a new wave of projects that, (IF) Batch arrives, have a fair shot at making a sustainable business case if they manage to build a proper product that captures an audience.

As we wrap up 2024, I’ve been seeing some questions about Xaman’s monetization, so let me clarify a few of the biggest questions.
Can you pay for monetization in crypto?
Yes, of course, you can pay with $XRP, although—it’s not as smooth as just hitting Apple Pay or Google Pay. as those are a part of the seamless flow built right into the monetization.
If you want to avoid monetization entirely, Xaman Pro is your ticket: a full year of no monetization, extra features unlocked, and yes, you can pay for it in $XRP using xrpl-labs.com/pro.
Alternatively, holding 5,000 $XAH on the Xahau Network exempts you from monetization as long as you keep that balance or more.
Does monetization apply to everyone?
No. Monetization only applies to power users—the top 50% of our most active users on a rolling 30-day basis. Nothing changes for casual users.
Manually sending and receiving transactions will remain free no matter what and will not count towards monetization.

And for those thinking, “Why can’t I just pay in crypto from the payment screen?”— if that was possible, it would already be there. As app developers, we live in a world where Apple and Google make the rules, and we must adhere to their rules to stay available in the app stores.

As we bid farewell to 2024, we reflect on a year of remarkable milestones on all fronts: three major updates to Xaman, the introduction of our monetization, and the launch of many innovative xApps like Voucher, MultiSign, Balance Adjustment, and XAH Teleport.
We unveiled our new website to create a more seamless and engaging experience for existing and future Xaman users. We also strengthened the backbone of the XRPL ecosystem by scaling our infrastructure to support growing demand.
This year, we also witnessed incredible contributions from the XRPL and Xahau communities, with significant new xApps published that pushed the ecosystem forward. Thank you to all community members and developers!

Fees: While Hooks transactions may see slightly higher fees compared to the base XRPL transactions, these increases are still incredibly minimal—fractions of a cent in most cases. XRPL’s core cross-currency payment capabilities will remain fast and nearly free, so the fundamental utility of XRPL isn’t compromised.
Performance: Claims about performance degradation with Hooks are unfounded. Xahau has already demonstrated performance equal to or better than XRPL under similar or even higher loads. For example, Project L10K, arriving later this year, aims to fit 10,000 transactions in a single ledger, solving current XRPL challenges with higher transaction volumes. Performance optimization remains a key priority.
Big Picture: Hooks is about account-based programmability, not just programmable contracts. This hybrid approach takes XRPL to the next level by enabling monetization opportunities directly within the ecosystem. Think NFT royalties, streamlined minting, and tools that make building applications far easier.
As @Krippenreiter mentioned, the future is hybrid. XRPL provides the foundation, and Hooks brings the flexibility for use cases that demand more functionality—all without sacrificing what makes XRPL special.
Xahau’s direction reflects a vision to support billions of users, including use cases for large-scale banking and enterprise applications. It’s designed to complement XRPL while addressing specific needs that XRPL’s current architecture can’t and has been made clear won't accommodate.
These are valid concerns, but rest assured, the goal is growth, not compromise. Hooks is the tool to push the ecosystem to the #1 spot while staying true to its core strengths. 😊

XAH is device-agnostic, meaning if you have ur account with 5000XAH on ur android phone and ur ios phone, both of them are not subject to monetization.
The same goes for accounts, say you have 10, 1 account with 5000XAH = other 9 accounts not subject to monetization.
